Leather care

Can you advise me on this? I'm new to it and wondered whether you have a good solution....
How should I care for the leather upholstery in my 2008 60,000 mile QPV to keep it clean and free from cracking?
Mine is this colour, (Cuoio?)

I use Autoglym leather cleaner and leather balm on my GT seats, and have used on previous cars without any problems. Plenty of products about but always wise to check indiscrete area before doing the whole seat etc. just in case

I’ve used autoglym leather cleaner and balm also and find it very good. Also used Gliptone which is very good and has a lovely leather smell to it.

A good cleaner for leather and a conditioner. They all work in much the same way but Furniture Clinic are probably the best. Ultra Clean is what you need.

A steam cleaner is also very good on leather as the heat tightens and reshapes the leather especially if it’s sagged.

We have a QP in with Avoirio and it was in a bit of a state but with a lot of time you can bring them back. The below before pic is lifted off the net but they were this bad.

it had black stitching so I had to fine line mask it all and repaint the seats in the oem colour. The results speak for themselves

After 5 layers of colour they get two coats of semi-Matt sealer. The above were sprayed with an air brush and not sponged as a lot of people do.

Bloody ****, @conaero !

That's amazing. Quick q: The leather on the Continental's seat edges has a series of dents in it, I assume from the seatbelt buckle not being out of the way before someone slammed the door. Is steaming likely to help, and is it advised for the inexpert?

The trick is to get moisture into the leather. First I would put the seat back as flat as possible and put a wet rag on for a bit then yes, apply steam. Don’t scrub it, you will take the colour off.

Drop in, I’ll have a bit of a go at it or you can borrow the steamer and do it yourself.

Robins car was in recently and he had dents and marks below the NIT from it previously being removed (not by us). I applied steam and massaged it all out. Before:

What I don't get, modern car seat leather is 'sealed', so how can you get moisture/conditioner into the leather if it is 'sealed'?

its somewhat “porous” if it wasn’t it’d be like sitting on a vinyl seat when you were a kid.

My Maserati seats are 'finer', not so sure on my BMW leather seats though, more pleather, even though they are leather but heavily 'sealed' I think.

Well it isn't like that now. Like new. Skillful and tenacious chap is that Matt.
I didn't ask him to do it. It just annoyed him.

NIT......

Inserted and withdrawn more often than a ££££ in a tart

Alan - I can‘t help with leather cleaning, but I can confirm that yours is not cuoio. Cuoio is a darker brown.

I tried the Gliptone leather cleaner and then feed on my 1979 Ferrari, which has beige leather that’s similar to yours, but the results were underwhelming. Though it’s highly like to be from my poor technique rather than any fault with the products.

Thanks, Matt @conaero If we ever get to the same meet, you can have a look. I actually have a steamer :)

it's only the outboard edges of the seats. If I lay them down, I won't be able to access them :D

Gliptone is in my personal armoury, I have a litre for personal use only. As it’s not made anymore, I am hoping it’s enough to see me out.

Yes, I've always used gliptone too, and not got much conditioner left now, didn't know it wasn't available anymore.
I won't let the missus use it on the sofa now.

GE-WY leather dressing is what I've used for over 30 years. It won't affect the stitching, and it keeps leather nice and soft.

I use bare hands to apply, and rub it well into the leather. Leave it overnight, and clean up with a soft cloth. Keeps the hands in good shape too...
