Local council scum!

From the title you can guess this is clearly going to be a rant!!
On Saturday I stopped for a second in a 'Yellow box' as the cars in front unexpectedly stopped.
Sure enough today I received a fine in the post from Brent council! A quick internet search highlighted concerns by the likes of the RAC, that as enforcement for these has been passed to local council's there could be a massive increase in the number of fines issued. Sure enough the scum who delight in increasing council revenue will now enforce these in an utterly unfair and gratuitous manner! Another example of the motorist being the easy target!!
Part of me thinks I should contest it, but everything is so massively stacked against you, like everyone else I will just end up paying the reduced £65 fine. However I will be one of the last to give in and use the appalling excuse for public transport, or get a s*dding bicycle like the authorities want.
Rant over, and I have to say I don't feel any better!

Totally empathise!

Dropping a friend off near Holloway, realised I had entered one of those residential roads with new restricted access. To minimise my transgression, i immediately did a U-Turn and exited within a few yards of entering the road. What is the reward for my attempt to limit my transgression? Two parking tickets for the same contravention with the same time stamped, taken by different cameras. Of course I’m contesting and apparently they reply within 56 days but allow you to pay the reduced fee if paying early, even if you lose.

Absolute money making scam.

Not surprisingly I absolutely sympathize with you. It's nothing more than a form of legalised extortion, and I wish you luck with your appeal!
I only wish the media would take more of an interest...

London authorities are the worst at this and are constantly trying to grab more powers, in their sites is the real cherry of speeding being de-criminalised. You can bet if they get that one, every street will have military grade cameras enforcing the 20mm h with the minimum 10%margin oh and now 15mph zones in the city and planned 10pm zones coming!!!

I’ve been caught out twice like that, where the traffic was flowing freely and then suddenly stopped. If you change your driving technique to that of a complete dipstick and slam the brakes on before entering every box, you won’t get a fine. But you’ll probably get rear-ended on a regular basis.
There really is no way a reasonable driver won’t get caught out from time to time. I paid my fines very reluctantly and decided it is the luck of the draw whether a lorry ahead of you decides to stop for a pedestrian or a car pulls out suddenly into the flow of traffic.

I empathise and totally agree. It is hard to know when the traffic in front might suddenly stop and you're left with half a foot in a box junction for 2 seconds.
I've given up fighting some fights that you will never win to keep my energy, focus and motivation for the ones I believe I can fair better.
So I'll stop now before I enter a.box junction and wait until it is clear. I'll play the muppets stupid game. Stop giving them the fines and they lose the game.

After being hit with a speed awareness course a few years back with 4 lanes into 1 on a busy M1 down from a job in Leeds on a Friday night at midnight I've changed. When variable cameras went from 60 to 50 suddenly and I hadn't noticed it with all the commotion and floodlights of roadworks I approach these differently now.
If it goes from 70 to 40 I'll brake sharply to make sure I'm doing 40 through the cameras. Makes you look like a **** driver and of course makes no sense but I'm not paying any more stealth taxes.

They have enough tax out of me and if I give them more they'll only p1ss it up the wall anyway.
Enough is enough!

Absolutely right!! Their agenda's are to drive people off the road, and the money they raise in fines they can flush away on more dimwitted idea's! Here's a good one - let's turn half the Euston road into a cycle lane, and when it turns into an enormous car park let's reverse the idea. That should waste a few hundred grand... Oh no sorry I forgot they already did that, along with all the other local authorities. How about introducing little traffic lights for bicycles? And yes they have already done that, and needless to say the cyclists ignore both their little 'toy' lights along with every other traffic signage. Of course it goes without saying when these ridiculous riders get knocked down its the fault of the evil driver, who should be punished even more for driving their evil road vehicles, unless of course your one of the very rich who don't give a toss about fines, and in fact probably are in favour of them, as it keeps the roads clear of 'ordinary' people!! They are (local authorities) all a complete bunch of losers, and in the case of London headed up by the biggest loser of them all. I speak of course of the London Mayor!!!

The use of cameras for fine enforcement in the UK has become madness.

We have very few in Ireland and those we have are in Dublin but we do have speed vans and local Garda who have little else to do. So once again its like going back 40 years, know the local spots, be aware and watch for flashes from other traffic of pending entrapment

I recently, mistakenly, drove through the Tyne Tunnel. No very visible signs, no booths, no barriers, where and how are you meant to pay? Nice camera image through the post with the fine, asked for an image of the tolls and signs in return!

Sadly I believe that is the correct thing to do - I have a feeling the highway code says not to enter unless you can see your exit is clear - a bit like crossing a railway line!

Even worse than the LAs, TfL can issue driving fines now!!

I was done a couple of years ago in a box junction and the pic showed I only had 1 wheel in it!

And the only reason I and the car in front stopped was to allow 2 police motorcycles (with blues and two's on) go through.
By the time they had the lights had changed and we got done! W*nkers!
