Incidentally the RAC man recommended a battery conditioner even for a new battery on a Gran Turismo.

Smart RAC man. The "issue" is the enormous drain these cars put on the battery rather than the age of the battery. Anyway, glad you got it all sorted and good to see Bowkers and WarrantyWise providing good service. Maybe the latter should sponsor the forum. It has many fans on here.

As suspected then. I must admit that I never had any problems whatsoever after the battery was changed (under original OEM warranty) on my old base 4.2 GT. However the conditioning (trickle) charger may have helped :)

Glad it's all sorted. Hopefully it will be trouble-free, happy motoring from here on in.

Thanks.

Whereas my story isn't that interesting to all, I think it worth pointing out when you receive good service, as well as bad!

It was definitely worth mentioning it on here Bobby, as it will hopefully help other GT owners who may suffer a similar incident (and hopefully put their mind at ease that it is probably just a duff battery and nothing more serious).

Cheers,

There's a bit of kit in the US made by Save-a-battery, Granite Digital in CA, which acts as a trickle charger but also can be programmed to deep-cycle the battery. I have had them on all my cars for some five years and no battery problems at all. It is worth noting that all the batteries were not new when I started using their chargers!!! As a matter of interest I had three replacement batteries on my 4200 Spyder in its first year because of low mileage.
