Lost in narrow Devon lanes !

Yesterday I headed down to Devon in my GTS, lunched at a little place called “Beer” the headed on the back roads down to Gara Rock near Salcombe.

Satnav took us down some truly horrible lanes and the approach to the hotel was a nightmare.

On the plus side the weather is beautiful and the hotel “Gara Rock” is wonderful with view that are out of this world.

Just got back from Cornwall, satnavs are useless down there, just use a proper map.

We had a mate’s 21st at the Gara Rock Hotel. I had a Metro VdP at the time, velour seats and wood trim. Probably more suited to the lanes round there.

Lovely down there, but brave in that car. Hopefully you never met oncoming traffic.

Had some fun times in Beer and Branscombe just over the other bay (the one where all the containers washed up).

Rock Salmon and Champagne on the beach...lovely.

Lovely Roads! Most of my traveling is done on roads like those......Admittedly in a trusty Transit though, good job I wasn't coming the other way, transits go better than they stop!
Hope you enjoyed your stay, cracking part of the world, he said without Bias!

Heading home tomorrow and promised my travel sick wife I will head for the mains roads on the way home.

The views from Gara Rock are awsome and I will take a few pics of the GTS (which is embarrassingly thithy) before be leave.

We did meet a few “locals” on route including two massive trucks - but I drive like a girl on the buys of road I can’t see.

Not looking forward to to the first 500 yards leaving the hotel and she will be dragging her belly on the grass/gravel in the centre of the track (the GTS not the wife).

As it was half-term I took the family to Gara Rock last weekend, and the Habour Hotel Spa in Salcombe. But sensibly took one of the Rangies, not the Maser. As you say, the last bit to GR is shocking. If you get halfway down and someone’s coming the other way, it’s flip a coin to see who has to do a monster reverse!

Lovely hotel though, so worth the drive.

Holidayed in the Lizard a couple of times, was excellent, but very much the land that time forgot, expected to bump into Doug Mcclure at any time! ;)

Just sometimes, it’s better to leave the Maser at home and take a different car. Going to Garra Rock is just such a time. (Unless you have a Levante, that is.)
