Hi All,
Sorry if this has already been covered. Does anyone fit new ball joints yet or do you still have to buy the complete wishbone? Where's the cheapest place?
Cheers
Ray

There was a thread about a company that was refurbing them, I’ll try and find it. But for the front lower, Eurospares might still have some pattern ones.

groan ...... my own 3200 is coming back to life and I wince every time I see the underneath of my car. Fingers crossed you get some spares. Think mine are now all replaced.

JayEmm on Cars sent some Lambo wishbones to these guys for refurbishment..
I’m not sure they had been used in anger at the time he reported positively on their work, and the Lambo is slightly different in design, I understand. Nevertheless, he had good things to say about it.....

Someone needs to do this and report back.....! :feedback:

Over two grand !!! There must be a machine shop in the UK capable of replacing just the ball joints. I am really surprised no one is doing this by now.

I think it is an insurance thing. The £2k is for a complete set, which would be more like £10k for OEM.

ES are still listing pattern lower levers for £695 each (plus VAT). So there is an argument that you could go for the refurbed ones and sell your good used originals and make a profit!

The difficulty with second hand arms is the lottery it presents.
As these parts have a finite lifespan, chances are they are tired when you buy the used, honestly.....

You’re right - I misunderstood you’re rather sideways maths...in my defence, I think you’ll find £2K is six of eight but you only need six , for some reason....:as001 (2):

I've seen pattern ones for around £500 which I think is ludicrous, as similar wishbones retail for around £100. I am going to pop it over to my friendly engineering company who supply all manor of bearings and ball joints. Its otherwise a perfectly good wishbone! ill let you know what they say

I inquired some years ago at a MD for the cost of all 8 wishbones being replaced. The quote was £12k plus fitting!

I have fortunately only had to replace one WB in over 14 years of owning Coupe and recall Emblem of Poole telling me of the lower rear wishbones ball joint issue when the MD part was just 600 notes.

Front upper Wishbones have a serviceable ball joint without replacing the whole arm.

As our arms suffer failure with fatigue, I don't think replacing only the ball joints is a wise choice.

Its not really fatigue, those that have failed to my knowledge had pretty rough bushes, they can swell due to corrosion or the inner sleeve seizes and the torsion causes the crack. It’s extremely rare (no reported cases here for years) but the moral of the story is, check your bushes. If they are not cracked and the bush is replaced, I’d use them again with a new ball joint.
