Hi all,

I pop on and read the Forum regularly but havent posted in a while.
The 4200 has been parked up for a while as Mr ttt has been a bit busy.
He is planning to catch up on a few tasks next month which involve a bit of paintwork and a new set of sports cats.
We were going to go to a really helpful guy in Cardiff but I cant ask him which exact ones we will need as we are now going to do them ourselves.
I have searched for Magnaflow Catalytic Converter Maserati 4200 on Ebay and 8 different types are displayed.
There are a variety of different shapes and sizes and rather than reading for hours, I wondered if anyone knows which ones would be the best fit as they all claim to fit the 4200 Coupe?

Many thanks for any help :)

I'm not sure myself but I think that you can delete the secondaries which you can see on the right of this attached photograph and recognise in the Ebay listings...but the other type I do not recognise.

Good to hear from you, I'm sure someone will give you the answer in a bit, not something I have got around to yet.

Martin, the issue is the fronts apparently were removed by someone before me! The secondary's were damaged when the car was being moved about after recovery and have had to be removed as well! It makes sense to replace with a single 200 or 400 cell sports cat on each bank.

Oh well in that case I'd say this shape of cat

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MagnaFlow...867313&hash=item46653e4cb0:g:NLMAAOSwFNZWz29i

but I'm only going off the shape.

However I would have thought that CAT are more efficient the hotter they are and you need the primary ones more than the secondary ones.

Sorry, my laptop decided to play up I couldnt get back on. As Newton says above, the primaries have been previously removed.

The first link you added were the ones I was looking at. I will try and give them a ring tomorrow, thanks

Mrs ttt I thought we deduced that your motor has had full cat delete?

Kev would know what you mean but I have no idea :)
What does full cat delete mean?
There were no primary cats and the secondary cats were blocked solid so they were removed. We were going to replace them with sports cats, just not enough hours in the day recently. October will be a little quieter so he is planning to get the bit of paintwork done. While she is at work it's an ideal time to get her on the ramp and fit the sports cats.
As always P, appreciate your help. Thanks

This.
Full cat delete = cats completely removed.

Thanks Corranga.
The primary Cats were totally missing.
The ceramic material from the pipes have been removed and the metal pipes are still there with no 'cat material'
Kev will cut the pipes and weld the new sports cats on. (Once I figure out which ones to buy)
I hope that make sense?

Thanks :)

But but if it is running as it is and sounding as good as it did when you popped round and it doesn't fail emissions tests why bother with even adding sports cats?

With no cats you must have the EML light on and poor running? or has the Ecu been remapped to run without them?

Interested as replaced my cat sections with a single pair of sports cats.

Still a pair of cats but higher flow.

Do you have same standard exhaust as above or the other (US) set up:

One pair of cats in manifold

Other pair in next section

Euro spec as per the top, I suspect it had an ecu remap as it never threw any cat errors that I'm aware of. The owner before me was a real petrol head and an engineer so it may well have been him. I'm sure Mr & Mrs ttt will sort it efficiently ahead of the next MOT.

She flew through the MOT but only just scraped through the emissions test and we can be heard coming off the M4 so we are trying to be sensible :)

No cats and no EML and runs like a dream. ECU has not been touched. I think they are the top ones? They flatten along the pipe.

It won't throw an EML because the cats have been gutted and not replaced. Keep it as is!!

Hello Gp79. Does your pipe have squished part? I've got also myself high quality HJS cats and will follow same route. But how did you fit this below the bar and how is ground clearance? Do you have other photos please?

Hi Tufan,

Please see below, no squashed pipe anymore and no problems with ground clearance.

Quite tight around the roll bar and sub frame but still has enough clearance.

Not sure who made mine as I picked them up used.

Just asking the question; does anyone have the CAD files for the manifold/first section flanges for US style and or Euro???
