Hey, thanks for nice welcome msgs :)

So I've read that Magnaflow sounds a bit like muscle car, not like subtle (yeah right...) italian car that's what worries me most. But it's quite hard to find proper recording / opinion. The good part is that there is a shop in EU which can ship it quite fast/in a good price.

@philw696 tubis are only in AU so I don't event want to ask for shipping price...

Similar problem is with Larini, when I asked for shipping price it's about $1-1.5k which kinda makes this purchase non sense...

Maybe instead should I go for some custom build stuff?

Do you know anyone with a GS there? Something to compare to your 4200. With the x-pipe and valved rears maybe this would be closer to what you're looking for.

A big warm welcome...I'm sure you will some great advice to get the exhaust you need. Don't forget to post some pictures of you 4200 when you get a chance we would love to see her.

To be honest, I think if you went to a decent exhaust fabricator, you could get as good, if not better for less money. And they will try and tailor the sound for you.

This is what a local place did for me to replace the collapsed cats. I think it's a work of art!

Morning Mr Capes - have been considering Quicksilver as a possible future change. Are your back boxes Sport or Supersport? Thanks.

Navcorr - I had quicksilver on my 3200, nice burble, not to intrusive but I do recall a drone at motorway speeds.
The sound would be different on the NA 4200, exhaust mods are a well discussed forum topic, from ASBO hunters to the whisper merchants.
Geoff's car (above) is fookin LOUD! There is a theory that his current issues are actually a conspiracy from his neighbours, most of them live in France!

It was quite throaty before the H pipe, and there was a bit of drone on the Motorway, but only at about 60-70. Above that it was gone.
The H pipe surprisingly made the drone disappear. But obviously you get increased noise.

Thanks for that. Much appreciated. Have been doing quite a bit of reading and Larini is clearly the forum favourite. As I understand it Larini provide the "correct" sound for Maserati??

I'd interested in more low frequency presence than stock but without intrusive cabin noise. Particularly the drone you've mentioned at motorway speeds.

The changes I envisage will/probably be made to a 4200 Spyder - so excessive noise/ASBO is not the objective. Replacement of the crushed front section seems like a logical change (Indeed Mr Capes - your replacements are superb) but does this in itself add loudness? I would assume so.

Much to ponder and actual experiences are very helpful. So thanks again.

Re: the French - just buy them off with some cheese and garlic. Throwing bars of soap at them has never worked

I would thoroughly recommend the guys that did mine (Ashford Fast Road Conversions), it almost sounds Larini-esq now.

And it is a bit louder. But not on idle. Possibly due to the smoothness of the airflow now?

Many thanks Mr Capes. I appreciate your notes.. Hopefully useful to the OP too.
I guess any changes will be a trade off to some extent. Hearing different systems can only help the decision making process. Thanks again.

No worries. Where are you based?

Thanks for the tip. Nice part of the world - I used to Skydive at Headcorn years ago. Do you know the Bell at Smarden? That was the favoured watering hole at the end of the day.

Edinburgh - almost as far away as it gets. My niece lives in Dover though so we have regular visits. Including trips to France - I was joking before and have many friends there . A wonderful Country in so many ways.

It is - just ruined by its population!
:banplease:
:whocares:

Well, sometimes, they can be ..... errr ..... a bit French. Whenever French friends visit we use the Wedgewood dinner service. Thankfully they haven't turned any over as they would discover the design is called Agincourt.

Don't mention the war - I did once but I think I got a way with it all right.

I do actually. Drop in there sometimes when out for a ride on my bike. Nice pub.
