The Check Engine light on my dash came on last night and has stayed on.
Car driving great and recently had a full service.
Took car to mechanic friend who despite his best efforts could not locate the diagnostic port.
Does anyone know where I find it ?
Car is a 2000 3200GT manual
Thanks
Tom

It's on the right of the steering column on the rear of the panel underneath. If you put your hand up the back of that panel you should be able to feel it.

Yours may or may not be fully OBD2 compliant and might possibly have a three pin socket rather than the 16 pin OBD type. Be careful, not all 16 pin sockets are OBD2 on cars from around that year. E.g. mine has a 16 pin socket but requires the earlier diagnostic software to read/reset faults.

It's the grey three pin plug under the dash if pre 2001. You may be looking for an OBD connector, if so it won't be there. Only the very late cars had OBD sockets..

And the Check Engine light will more than likely be the 02 sensor or rpm sensor if performance is not affected.

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, that may clear it. If it comes back, then investigate further. Half the time it's just a voltage error as the warning lights perform their check. Also when you turn the ignition to the first setting, wait for the lights to go out on the dash, then start it.

I had to remove the carpet by your right shin to get at mine - it'll be a 3-pin plug on a 2000 car

Not necessarily - mine's a 2000 reg, 2001 model year car with a 16 pin OBD socket, but is not OBD2 compliant. There are a few oddball cars out there.

I'll be honest with you, a battery reset on a 3200 is ******* pointless!

Worked on my 32 quite well. Ask Greg! Marci's light came on from time to time with no indication whatsoever as to why. No change at all to the car in any way at all.

It is tucked right under the dash or side carpet, get your head in the footwell and look for the throttle pot cabling, it will run pretty close to that loom.

It's the one in this picture with the grey clip on it.

The battery on off thing depends on what is causing the problem. battery reset wont get rid of the problem but might kick it out of limp home mode. The serious problems wont be affected as it remembers these! it does not start from scratch until you clear the existing and impending errors and you need a reader interface doodad for that.

It might be worth having a look at the ecu itself. If it says EOBD on the label, you're looking for a 16 pin socket under the dash. If not, it could be a 16 pin socket, but most likely a 3 pin sockey as Phil pictured above. You'll need to peel back the carpet next to the throttle pedal to see the ecu.
