Dear SportsMaserati Members,

After two years of searching I finally found her - my pride and joy. At the beginning our relationship was perfect - she Italian - I am Italian - pure passion ;O)

As it is in real life - now she has started to complain about headache formally known as CEL. To keep our relationship on a high level - she got a contactless TB and as well a contactless acceleration pedal sensor. However, if I drive her in the morning - all works perfect. As soon as the trip is over and I turn her on again, CEL goes on and no more than 3000rpm are not allowed. The next day she is perfect again, without CEL.

Because of my work situation - I am not able to drive her to the Maserati Shop. As a friend owns a SD3 Diagnostic Tool - I thought that I could manage the issue myself. Unfortunately, every time I try to scan OBD the tool says that no connection can be found. Does anybody know why the SD3 is not working. Is it because of the 3-Pin-Fiat-Connector /OBD1 scan tool protocol?

Has any one an idea what I am doing wrong ... Or did this happens to some of the member as well?

By the way - KWP2000 is not working at all - but this is another story ;o)

Thanks, Andrea

My guess would be that you are not plugged into to the correct connector; you need the grey one with red on the end

Unfortunately is the correct connector - it was my first thought as well - so I went to a garage and they did the diagnostic with an old Fiat Tool and it worked well - after paying £50 I have realized that this has to be changed )

The SD3 manual is really poor - there are some lines saying that there is a SD1 and SD2 diagnostic tool. What I do not understand is if a SD3 tool is capable to read OBD1 diagnostic or only OBD2?

@ AdamN - Thanks - next bone is on me ;)

Hi Vespa and welcome.

Your issues are either a defective throttle body or pedal pot.

I was speaking with a very well known indie the other day and he told me all the problems he has been seeing with the contactless systems.

I would contact the supplier of the contactless parts and ask for a replacement.

Welcome and enjoy.

Quite often it is not the contacts which go wrong but the motors and sensors. I had this issues with limp mode and it was totally unrelated to the TB. There are about 5 or 6 different things which can throw a CEL and limp mode. Plug it in and give us the codes otherwise it's just a stab in the dark.

I have the correct cable and am over in Newbury if you want me to scan the car.
