I see this post is quite old, but let me ask the following: I have seen the sat nav of my 4200 is quite old, there are some roads that are not recognized. Also, the interface with the user is not top notch. I am used to TomTom, and the most recent sat navs of TomTom are great. So, I buying a TomTom seems to make sense.

However, I would like to keep the car as original as possible. As a consequence, I have thought about the possibility of updating the original sat nav. Has anybody done that? With the new CD, is the sat nav useful for normal life?

I understand 2007 is the newest road map, you may however be able to get compatible CDs from the manufacturer that work on other car systems...but as you say its old tech and we have moved on to DVDs and now flash cards.

I'm running 2008/9.
For what I need, we haven't exactly been building lots of new roads in the last 7 years!

A modern tomtom is much more useful than the built in satnav, the traffic is excellent, on a recent trip to the Trafford centre it sent me round a 20 minute queue straight in to the car park, but cost me a bloody fortune instead of the usual , I'm not queuing in that let's go home.
