Its a translated article, but you get the gist:

LONDON - Downsizing at Maserati is perhaps too literally. The V8 engine Ferrari, according to U.S. media to make way for a turbo V6, please note that comes from Chrysler.

It's still a rumor and Maserati does not respond to speculation and certainly not on messages that enter into future models. If we are to believe the story away the 4.2 and 4.7 liters V8 Ferrari to the corner of the Maseratis. For the typical six-cylinder engine is an engine in place. The Chrysler unit is equipped with two turbochargers. Americans or the Italians or the displacement increase or decrease is not known. The so-called Pentastar engine now measures 3.5 liters. Maserati engine was not only in the compact sedan (2012) or spoon, the Gran Turismo , GranCabrio Quattroporte and should suffer for it.

JEEP SUV
That there is a link between the Chrysler Group and Maserati is not new. Just the Chrysler TC from the eighties is excluded, both marks associated with Fiat, which has already ensured that a Maserati SUV next year's program gets. Jeep SUV delivers to the Italians. This converted Grand Cherokee will please note in the United States built, but the Maserati SUV gets Ferrari engine under the hood.

The good news is, you should buy a 4.7GTS and hang onto it, you wont loose much if this happens. I am still not convinced, I recon the Pentastar engine will just end up in the entry level Maserati that is mooted for next year.

Here is another translated article:

Maserati is preparing to have a lineup that will feature variants boasting turbocharger from Chrysler.

As of last month, we have heard that Maserati was putting a lot of efforts on an entry-level sedan model that will be presented to challenge its rivals with the looks including Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series, and Audi A6. It has also been reported that the model will feature a turbocharged version of none other than Chrysler’s, a 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 that delivers 400 bhp (298 kW / 406 PS).

Following the last months news, we have now been reported that the sources close to Maserati are presenting information that a 3.0 liter twin-turbo version of the similar Pentastar V6 will also be housed in the future models of the Quattroporte and GranTurismo. Currently, these two cars are accommodating Ferrari-supplied V8 engines. This news is directly coming from Inside Line where the sources have struggled to bring up some spicy news about the Maserati’s future lineup.

Though, we don’t have any details further, but at least we can hope to see some unique additions under the hood of these cars. Remained is the revelation package from Maserati when it will stand in front of public and talk about their currently hidden projects.

...and one more:

Some sources close to Maserati revealed the Americans to InsideLine that Trident will soon adopt a variant of the twin-turbo V6 Pentastar, engine recently launched models freshest Group Chrysler , with a capacity of 3.6 liter naturally aspirated. The news itself is not new: already three weeks ago we talked about the debut of this unit on the so-called "baby Quattroporte" , sedan segment and the next debut. But apparently she will not just be to use the six-cylinder USA.

According to reports gathered by colleagues overseas, the twin-turbo V6 is even intended to replace the 4.2 and 4.7 V8 currently adopted by the Quattroporte, GranTurismo and GranTurismo. The unit will be chosen by the Modena also smaller than the naturally aspirated 3.6. To be precise, it is about a 3.0, probably more inclined to speed up and pull out the attributes in areas of high rpm, compared to the engine from which it derives.

The news is of course to be taken with the tongs, as the Maserati V8 is a little less than a monument to the best of automotive engineering. And to assume his final retirement, in accordance with the needs to reduce consumption and emissions, it seems frankly a little 'reckless. Who will live will see.

On the same subject, this is taken from this months Auto Italia courtesy of Alvise-Marco Seno...

"New Maseratis. Maserati's model range will soon be extended by the baby Quattroporte and the SUV, both designed by Pininfarina and based on alloy platforms made by Alcoa. The initial engine choice is likely to be between a 300HP V6 turbodiesel and a Pentastar V6 turbo. Later, Ferrari is expected to provide V8 and V12 engines, plus the FF's 4WD transmission with a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. With recent union disputes resolved, all new Maseratis will be produced at the former Bertone plants in Grugliasco."

The dreaded diesel is unwelcome, but inevitable I guess for the 'baby' models given what they need to compete with, but at least this version of events keeps the Ferrari link for the later, presumably 'top end' future models.

All to be expected really. I agree that the GTS (F1 or auto) may go down as one to keep and.....even the last great Maserati.

Pity Lancia! They're already in the midst of Chrysler rebadging with the Ypsilon, to be followed by the new Flavia and Thema. Then there's the Alfa TZ Stradale, which is a Dodge Viper wearing an Italian overcoat.

We'll all end up driving Chryslerati Dodgylancios! Can't wait to see what they come up with for the bonnet badge? Maybe it'll be a Yankee Dollar with the work "sucker" underneath?

....hhhmmmm.......its looking like the Maserati DNA being diluted/polluted or the family silver being sold off again time.........the list is long.......only the latest interlopers..........we will have to put up with it!

I guess with fuel economy being so key in modern automotive design, only the supercar companies will be able to avoid following a similar route. For Fiat, Ferrari is their supercar arm. I guess the other alternative is to fold Maserati and I would prefer to see a watered down Maserati than lose it completely. I don't like it but there you go.

...its a big toy....big engine.....huge power.......something has to give...remember the cost of fuel is only related to the very punitive tax take per litre.......of each litre costing £1.38....about 91pence is tax/VAT

Oh dear, FIAT group did it with Alfa and we all ran away, some of us to Maserati - now Maserati are doing it. Snap up those GS's and GT-S's now, looks like they will be the last of the 'real' Maserati's.

That is crappy news but inevitable - similar to Jag putting a 2.2 in their XF - it has to be done to remain competitive. Good for them for trying to stay in business!

Interesting there was a mention of a Ferrari V12 in a Maserati. Would that be the first road car to carry a V12? Could be a half price Scaglietti/FF...

So for some the 3200 was the last proper Maserati as it had a Maserati engine......looks like we will now see the 2nd phase of the last of the proper Maserati......as MS said...snap up a GS/GTS/QP.
