So what do we recon, any good?

The Maserati Ghibli Diesel is powered by a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 unit, which is good for 275 HP (202 kW) and 600 Nm of torque (443 lb-ft). The model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.3 seconds in this configuration and it burns an average of 6.0 L of fuel every 100 km (47 mpg UK / 39.2 mpg US), while emitting 160 g/km of CO2. The model is also getting a 330 HP (243 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) 3.0L V6 twin-turbo gasoline engine. This version can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and it's burning an average of 9.6L/100km (29.4 mpg UK / 24.5 mpg US). The top of the line will receive 410 HP (301 kW) and 550 Nm of torque (405 lb-ft). All version will get a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

It will be assembled by Ferrari in Modena, but do we think the origins of this engine lay somewhere over the pond?

I do know Maserati were always critical with the lack of low down grunt the Ferrari V8 delivered, maybe this is a route back to what Maserati believe in.

I remember Fiat buying a stake:

2011

A new product line of a V6, 3.0L displacement engine is launched in 2011, adding a new class of vehicle applications such as luxury SUV’s and large top-of-class sedan, like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Lancia Thema. Further development of the RA428 engine results in a Euro 5 high performance engine named A428, mounted on the traditional Jeep SUV Cherokee and Wrangler, as well as the newly launched Lancia Voyager. The ownership structure changes: Fiat Group purchases the 50% share previously owned by Penske Corporation. VM is today a 50:50 Joint Venture between GM and Fiat Group.

...so its Italian, but is being mooted as a Ferrari engine, well I suppose its better than them trying to pull the wool over our eyes with a GM derivative like they did with Alfa (say no more about that one)

tbh with the derv engine all the needed to do is pinch the alfa 5pot, bolt another cylinder to it and an additional turbo,

Just be thankful Ford don't have an interest or it would have been the Kia Sedona lump!

then shoot down you local tuner pull that god awful DPF off get her retuned to run without it, and your figures go to 350-400bhp and 700nm of torque for the sake of a couple 100 quid.

I have a 2.0 JTS 156 that I use for going to work/driving in snow etc, sure there's about 1kg of coal hanging out of the rear exhaust pipe. As for the quoted BHP figures, who do they think they are kidding!

My brother has a GTV JTS and its not as peakey as the TS but the reason they did this is due to the JTS being much better on fuel. TS is a great little engine, just keep a constant eye on the oil level, they, like 3200's, like a drop of the black stuff.

dont start getting confused here guys the 2.0L JTS is an alfa built engine. only the 1.9 and 2.2 JTS were GM derived and ofc the 3.2 peace of pig iron.
the 2.0 JTS is/was based on the TS engine to bring it inline with fuel and euro reg's.

I think the reason is that the JTS engine cokes up pretty soon and loses a load of power. Mine drinks oil.

If this engine is 90% as good as my Jags 3litre diesel it'll be fabulous. Anyone who's ever driven one will confirm.
Not tradition but a sensible move for a company that wants to increase sales.
Cheers Wattie

It looks like a 60 degree definately not 90.

I am sure as you say it will be great but I just can't get my head around it.

Yes, try and improve the soundtrack maybe but yes agreed.

What is the 335D, a straight 6?

That's right, a twin turbo straight six. I'm thinking of getting a hybrid turbo on it next year; with a DPF removal and tuning it should push out upwards of 370bhp. Certainly should be quick enough then.
