May be in the market for a Manual 4200

Hi all been away for a while and in that time the wife has decided that its time for our Lotus Elise to finally go. We have owned the car for around 10 years so it was a big decision for us, we have contemplated loads of alternatives however we decided that for our next keeper it needs to be 4 seats and "special".

993 Porsche was the original choice we both love them however at well over 20k for a half decent one to many sacrifices were having to be made with regards to gearbox and colour.

The only other car we have both loved and felt was special enough to keep was our 4200. Only downside for us both was the CC gearbox, I didn't mind it but felt it lacked smoothness changing up although two taps down and broom broom could never get boring!!
Wife hated using the box and as she will be using the car more than me we need to go for a manual.

So the search is on, we are after a manual 4200 facelift like we had before so off the top of my head 03? And on. Would like mileage under 50k as we will be putting miles on. Goes without saying maintenance is a big thing I'm not overly worried if its specialist rather than main dealer I prefer to use specialists my self and through experiance cars owned by enthusiasts are normally running better than ones just chucked into the main dealer each year for a stamp.

Anything we need to be looking for on the manual different from the CC clutch is supposed to last longer but how long are 60k cars likely to need a new one?

Finally anyone thinking of selling? I am mainly testing the water at this point as we are waiting on selling the Elise so probably looking to purchase around a months time.

Thanks for any words of wisdom and help

Tony

Forgot to mention budget, max I would want to pay is 15k for something really good ideally around 10-12 seen a couple up for sale recently around this mark.

Think you are on bang the money Tony with a revised 03MY car and the DIY box tends to have fewer followers so you should get a good one. Only thing I am aware is that the cables can stretch and need to be finely adjusted to get the best feel out of the box

Thanks guys, to be honest this place is another good reason for buying, as some on here will be aware one reason I have enjoyed the Lotus ownership so much is seloc.org fantastic forum good fun but masses of collective information and knowledge.
I've found sportsmaserati to be a very welcoming and knowledgable forum, I am a member of a number of Porsche forums but have not found one yet that I am comfortable with and as I like to get me hands dirty on cars these places are a god send even if it's just to vent anger at a broken car!!!!!!

Most of the silver ones appear to have the Ox Blood red leather...not my cup of tea TBH

If I could choose I would have exactly the same colour combo I had before grey with black leather, however especially with the manual option checked I do not think I will have the luxury of 100's to choose from!!
I do not mind silver but in my opinion it flattens the lines of the car (if that makes sense!) I think the darker colours show the curves better.

Hi Tony. Manuals are a bit rare. I know someone who sells his manual giallo with black( giallo = yellow). The problem for you is that it's in Greece., so LHD. If you might be interested i can help you with that.

There's about 5 or 6 manual cars for sale at the moment, more than I've ever seen.

Manual highly recommended 5 years in and I have never had any gear change issues. Clutch life might be slightly better but I think owner behaviour probably has the biggest impact. Good luck in your search.

Very good value, identical to mine and same miles. I would want much more for in the way it is running now.

Why discount the 3200? Great motor....

Hi Tony, This one may be over budget but I have seen in it the flesh and it is immaculate. I think it has had one owner from new and the seller is well known and very reputable. Maybe a bit over budget though. It is the one here in Blue Sebring that is on for £21995 with a years warranty. http://www.nuvolalondon.com/for-sale.php
