Mazda CX-5

Just been offered a rather amazing deal on a new CX-5, brand new at 12% off list, plus a trade in, I would be having the Sport Nav diesel with a slush box, the price makes it a bit of a no brainer but I have no experience on Mazda cars - other than my dads old 626 which ran like a dream, was whisper quite and other than burning out the clutch just south of Paris when I borrowed it for a family holiday, never letting him down.
I would never normally buy a new car as the depreciation in its first drive off the forecourt really hurts and seems such a waste - the Sport Nav comes with all the bells and whistles, we need a 4 seater vehicle and have fancied a SUV type for ages as we are not getting any younger and the grandsons car seat and accessories fill our Mini to the brim - without his mum and Granny (the wife hate's being called that!)

I had my heart set on a new shape X3, very impressive kit list and economy but for a premium price, the Mazda does not come close in terms of fit and finish or brand kudos, but its not bad, full leather, sat nav, 19inch alloys, electric everything including seats, LED running lights and the Soul Red colour really suits it - that is a £660 option (why???? its just paint!!)

Neither Honda, Ford or Nissan can come close to offering the discount that Mazda are willing to give me and that's without any negotiation - in fact is it a bit cheeky to see what else I could get, either added or knocked off the price? I haven't driven one yet - the dealer has got one in stock until next week, he could tell my wife's enthusiasm virtually straight away when he told us the price and promised to get one from somewhere by next week, probably the easiest sale he ever made (not signed yet though) we only walked in off the street 10minutes before closing dressed in work clothes, looking like a tramp (me not the wife) and started looking at a £30k car! - bet he was glad he didn't give us the brush off based on my appearance.

The CX-5 gets pretty good reviews all around. Drive one and see if it suits you as it will not be as refined as the likes of the X3 or Qashqai. Lots of road noise from Mazda's of recent times.

Friends have Mazdas and they have just picked up CX-5, they love it and were also offered a great deal. If it does what you need and is a good deal go for it

Friend has one - great car. Are you going 2WD or 4?

Definitely 4WD - cant see the point in having a Chelsea Tractor that's 2WD, slightly better economy but the top model only comes as 4WD with a 175bhp 2.2lt Turbo diesel. The 150bhp version I cant get with the 19" rims which is rather odd, a £3k saving mind you. I could get some after market rims and tyres for that.

My father-in-law has one in white, manual with nav and all the toys. He loves it. By all accounts the reviews are good so as the others said, have a drive and if you like it, why not?

That seems like a good discount, Drive The Deal only seem to offer around 10%. DTD do offer huge discounts on the Kuga though so maybe worth a look on their site if your comparing different models/manufacturers. I owned a CX7 a few years ago, it was massively discounted when I bought it new but it still lost a lot more in the year and a half I owned it, they are worth about a tenner now :). The car was pretty good but the best part was the dealer and customer service. I bought it from a dealer about 80 miles away, when it developed a small judder on the discs they came and collected it from me, left me a car for two days and returned it with a full tank of fuel, they put most so called prestige/high end dealers to shame.

When we (the company I work for) buy new company cars, the norm is 10%. That is BMW's and Audi's normally.
They always laugh at first, but we always get 10% at close of deal.

So 12% discount sounds right, they will most likely make a few % back on your trade-in.
So the deal is really normal/good, its not what I would say amazing, although the salesman will make that out for sure!

I'm on my second Mazda 6 now. The first was traded in at 80k without a squeak, rattle or any issue during it's time with me. My current auto Sport, I've had for almost 2 years and the deal was no VAT and a 3 year interest free loan, which made any other make difficult to compete with it. A colleague who appears to be well versed in cars recently got in mine and asked how I was getting on with my new car. At 24k it apparently still looked, smelt and sounded new!

Thanks for all the positive comments - it seems the reviews online match a lot of opinions in the real word
The 12% is offered to me as a member of the Reserve Forces, I am also a limited company and VAT registered (flat rate) so might be able to use this angle for a few more pounds off.
I was quite amazed to hear 10% is the norm for discount

I've just ordered a Golf R for my wife and got 12.5% off list, we also looked at the Tiguan R and could have got just under 20% off one of those, the £31k list price shrinks to £25k, quite a saving

Tiguan is about to be replaced but they seem to be discounting the Golf R bigtime - leasing deals are cheap.

I agree about the Tiguan being replaced soon but its not imminent , £2k off the discount was subject to taking finance the other £4k was off the dealer, similar discounts are available on the Kuga and thats a fairly new model. The really cheap lease deals on the Golf R were a bit of a fiasco as VWFS cancelled many of them as they were only meant to be for business users, the VW dealers had been putting through Joe Bloggs as Joe Bloggs T/A and due to the huge numbers of orders VW cancelled them.I'm not sure how such big discounts are available on the R with it being such a new model and all the praise it has received from the motoring press, but I'm not complaining, £28k for a 300bhp practical hatch is a total bargain, the GFV in two years time is £23400, so the most I can loose over two years is £4600 :)

I discounted the XC straight away - its too old a design especially the engine - no point in buying a new skin with old mechanicals, same as GM Antara - basically a rebadged Frontera, salesman should really do some research when trying to flog mutton dressed as lamb, absolutely no technical knowledge of what he was selling.
