Hey
Just a wee update on my tyre quest.
I need new rear tyres and the car is wearing it's factory approved Pirelli Corsas. The fronts are OK still however I have found the Pirellis to be poor in cool temperatures and in the wet therefore I will change all 4. As I live in Scotland, this poses some issues.....
I therefore set about looking at the alternatives which has turned out to be not as easy as you'd imagine. The Stradale wears 255/35/20 Y fronts and 295/35/20 Y rears. This is one size larger than the other Granturismo models making it just obscure enough to be a pain in the ****.
After much searching, I've gone for Michelin Pilot Super Sport K1 fronts and K2 rears. The K numbers are Ferrari tread designs which I'm fine with and make me happier (for no worthwhile reason) than similar Porsche, BMW or Audi codes. Amazingly, there was not really a decent alternative option anyway as the manufacturers seem to make several versions on the front size and few of the rear. I tried Continental, Goodyear, Bridgestone and Yokohama, as well as a cheeky look at Vredestein but no-one could do a similar set. I can get Conti 6 fronts but only Conti 5 rears etc.
Michelin was my number 1 choice anyway so that's all good.
Lots of price shopping and I've gone for Black Circles, fitting at my local McConechy's (who i know and like) for a total of £982.18. I'm as pleased with that as someone who just spent nearly a grand can be !!
Will report on the changes to handling etc down the line. I'm hoping for a big change. We'll see.
As a result, I will have some part worn (still lots of life in them) Pirelli Corsa fronts is anyone is looking for a set. No repairs or chunks knocked out etc.
