Hi Guys, anyone who lives in Perth can recommend a Mechanic to work on my 3200GT.

So far I have been in contact with Euro Motor Repairs, but been very slow with quoting for the work I after.

I need to get the timing belt done and maybe some vacuum leak checked.

Cheers Justin

Mate there are a few options, the obvious being Barbagallo. Their prices have come down a lot lately because there have been a few more indies pop up and its getting competitive. Otherwise check out AutoDelta 08 9249 5044.

Hi Justin,
I have recently had work done on my 3200 by Ciliberti Motors, they are good and there prices are reasonable. They have looked after my Alfa's for 10 years. The other alternative is AutoDelta in Malaga, Leon knows Maserati in depth and is very good. I used them to do my cam belt change and they do have a Maserati diagnostic computer which may help. What is the problem?
Cheers

No problem with the timing belt, just don't know when it was changed and car has done just over 100 000 kms.

The vacuum leak is another story. I not 100% sure, but it sounds like either the inlet manifold gasket or one of the lines under the inlet manifold. The idle is quiet high (around 1100 Rpm) and sometimes it will pulse between 900 - 2000 Rpm. I have recently replaced the throttle pedal potentiometer and this didn't really help.

I'm pretty sure that the throttle body has be replaced by the previous owner, but not 100% on that either.

And on the mechanic, i got the car serviced at Barbagallo a few months after i bought it and they put the wrong oil in (5W40 instead of 10W60). So not to keen to go back there.

Cheers Justin

Justin, sounds like the plenum belly ban gasket.

If you remove the plenum, there is a plate on the underside with 10 or so screws holding it on and a gasket. Overtime the screws fall out into the V of the block and then the gasket gets blown out and causes massive fluctuations in the idle.

Thanks Conaero, that's what I meant by the inlet manifold gasket but I didn't know what that one was called.

I did speak to the mechanic that this car has previously been serviced at and he said that they have replaced that gasket just before I bought the car. When I'm driving the car hard it still picks up and performs great and I have had it on the track a few times with the idle issue with no noticeable lack in boost.

I will have a look myself, regarding the removal of the plenum; i know that there are some O-rings that seal the connection between the plenum and the head. Do you know if these can be reused? or if they are a standard size i could get at an auto shop.

Cheers Justin

Its an easy job, just make sure you don't break the injectors and the clips are fiddly and as soon as the plenum is off, block the intakes up to stop anything entering the engine....a stray washer can cause £1k's

Gday Justin, yeah, can totally recommend Cileberti's. Took my GTV there for 8 years, and my old X19 there which was early 90's... dad used to take his Fiat 124 there... they are trustworthy guys and I beleve they look after a few 3200s.

Tutti motori in Wangara does a lot of work on Maserati's and other exotics, they are always great when I take my 4200 there.
