Interesting and comparable to cars of its day a mini performance car where as these days it would be slower than most modern hot hatches.

42 years later and when the Merak handbrake was "illegally ineffective" in 1975 and still they can't make a car with a decent handbrake.

If memory serves me correctly, on a RHD car the lever was on your right side, and then if you wanted to open the bonnet the lever for that was in the passenger door recess. RHD was an after thought back then. Lol

The Alfa MiTo still has the bonnet lever in the passenger footwell in a RHD car.

Interesting editorial feature in the Maserati Club magazine, the Trident, featuring a lovely Merak and a stunning looking SM,both from the era of Citroen ownership, now dismissed by the current Fiat Chrysler management along with the de Tomaso biturbo period. No doubt neither fit with the current 'brand values'. It's actually what makes Maserati so interesting as a marque......cf.Ferrari.
