Horses for courses Phil and, TBH, it's not a problem for me to admit I owned one. It was one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned but not one of the best.

That reminds me of my old Fiat Panda (old one not new one!)
Needed cash to pay for the deposit on our first house.
Did not want to sell my Triumph Stag that I had just finished restoring, so sold my Alfa 33P4, and bought the Panda at the local car auctions for £400.
Ran it for 2 years, totally reliable, only cost was oil changes and fuel, sold it on with another 30K miles for £400!
It was the best value for money car I have every owned! Fun to drive, foot flat all the time, mastered clutches gear changes, mobile skip with rear seat removed when doing up said house.
Shame really that it is not possible I guess to still make such a simple car.

I read an article about a guy who only buys cars with high mileage. he reckons he gets a good car for less money, and that in a modern car , modern engine, they are good for many more miles than previous generations of cars.

got me thinking , as I did'nt disagree with his logic.
I bought a new ford XR2 in 87. swapped it in 96 with 198k trouble free miles on It. I swapped it for another ford, 2.0 scorpio estate. I did 325k miles in this untill the gearbox seal went in 2002.

So, do we put too much importance on mileage ?

interesting topic - I think we do - apply the logic to people - plenty of old healthy people, and plenty of young unhealthy ones - good genes (model), regular check ups (service), exercise (driven right) and a good diet (OEM, oil and Super) make a reasonable analogy to cars - likewise the fact I've only run about 20 miles in the last 10 years doesn't make me a "better buy" than my mate that runs 20 miles a week ;)

I'm not hugely fussed by miles, so long as its looked after.

I dont ever plan on selling the GS, finances willing, and just want to add to it (GTS, QP etc :)) but if I do sell it, given than many poeple will want to kick me in the spuds for the miles, I still reckon it'll be the cheapest mile/£ way to run a GS - use it. Use it a lot. :)

Keeping cars when you buy a new one is a great way of dealing with it. Gets a bit of a problem in the end mind.

1 year old and 2 years old respectively Dem , had good service out of them , The newer clk was a 7 month old hydrolock , looking to trade it in now possibly for a GT 86 and we have been offered nigh on what it cost us 5 years ago , so a result , the older Clk sort of died a death , engine and car was fine running tickety boo , one day the ignition went ,(no key recognition) 2 grand fix so was easier and cheaper to get rid , still got £400 at a breakers for it

Modern soft tops are very quiet. My Mrs had a 2003 Audi cab. Much quieter than the 2000 RS4 I had at the time.

I should imagine that in the 7 or so design years between the Alfa Braera Breara or whatever its called in Spyder from and the Audi, it will be just as good.

Go for a test drive, and if you want to be anal, take a sound pressure meter.
