MOT Failure

My 2007 QP recently failed it's MOT due to the offside headlight's aim being 'too far to the right'.

The retest is tomorrow and I've just realised that I don't know how to adjust the aim! There is nothing relevant in the instruction manual.

Do I need to remove the tyre and the whole of the wheel arch liner just to change the aim??

Anyone know how to make the adjustment please?

if you have xenon aren't these self leveling ?

also wouldn't the garage offer to do this for you as they will have the alignment reader box thingy to get it right ?

yes, I think they are self levelling. But its the left/right adjustment that's off.

The garage (ATS) don't know to adjust the aim.

I wondered if they have a LHD/RHD lever like Ferraris do?

I cant help with the LHD/RHD enquiry, but if the retest is tomorrow, it might be best to get it to a specialist to set up the headlamp alignment. If the aim is correct on the vertical axis it suggests the self-levelling system is fine.

So its probably the horizontal axis that needs to be adjusted from what you describe.

Thanks. It is the horizontal axis that needs adjusting. There was not problem with the height of the beam, which suggests that the self levelling is working.

I wondered how to adjust the horizontal axis. Is it through the inspection flap in the wheel well? I also wondered if there was a RHD to LHD lever for continental driving?

MOT retest is at noon today, so no chance to take it to a specialist. I was expecting this to be a quick adjustment.

If there is a RHD/LHD mechanism it should be explained in your owners manual.
Failing that, I think the car is going to fail the retest at ATS given you stated they have no ability to set up the alignment.

Probably best to cancel the retest and hand the car over to a specialist next week to sort out the alignment and secure the MOT on the vehicle. I leave mine with Marios for a combined service and MOT for this very reason, so that IF it needs anything sorted for the MOT, its in the best possible hands to sort it (and they will have inspected the vehicle prior to the MOT as part of the service).

I was not able to find the answer to this horizontal adjustment issue in either the handbook or online.

However, Joe Macari in London were very helpful. There is an adjustment knob on the back of the light. It's possible to reach it by reaching in behind the wheel arch liner, with the wheel turned fully inwards. I attach a photo for anyone else who has this issue in the future.

I was going to say that both xenon and standard lights have adjustable knobs as the self level only keeps the lights to the set level under all conditions and will not calibrate if the light is out either in pitch or angle if they are set in error.

As pointed out there are two knobs next to the light to adjust them.

However be warned the ballast box contains a huge charge of electricity!

Has this corrected the beam and has it resulted in an MOT pass on re-test?

Thanks for asking. Sadly the plastic has broken on the mechanism which means that I cannot adjust the beam. I guess I need to look at a replacement unit.

Does anyone know of a xenon unit (drivers/offside) that I can buy??

So I have now taken the wheel arch liner off to expose the back of the light cluster.

There are 3 separate adjustment knobs. Does anyone know which does what?
