Long day today. I set off from Essex to Darlington on the Train, and then drove 220 miles back in my new car.

Relieved to get home and I'm delighted that I managed to buy one :)

The A1M was pretty boring, but the last half hour I had some back roads I know well.

I can definitely see what the fuss is about now! I had a blast on the backroads and I'm really impressed with the balance and composure of the car.

In a different league to my old Assetto Corsa in terms of driver confidence.

The previous owner Chris ever so kindly drove 2 hours to meet me in Manchester last weekend where I viewed the car.

Out of the 6 I looked at this one was head and shoulders above the others to be honest. A real credit to Chris whom has owned it for the last 10 years.

It's an LE Spec car which was a bonus.

It's got all new discs and pads on it, a new set of Michelin S4S tyres, had a major 56,000 service not long ago with 15% clutch wear, clutch done not many miles ago before that. It's got invoices for every service from new, not just the stamps. Even got the invoice for the firsts service for example at Maranello Egham. Then mostly serviced at Giallo; lots of invoices for parts and all sorts, just what you want to see!

The paint is superb, it was ceramic coated a couple of times over the years, the underside waxoyled, and the interior has no sticky buttons, air vents chrome intact, all just in superb condition to be honest.

I also take back my comments about not being sure if the GS is quick enough compared to my old 3200. This one has the secondary cats removed and an X pipe, pulls really well! Forgive the comparison, but the engine sort of reminds me of another Italian masterpiece, the 24V Alfa Busso, it has such a wide spread of power and torque, very flexible and will pull from low yet also rev out with gusto.

Cant believe how much value for money these cars are!

Some pictures I took in the evening sun just after getting back, a bit bug splattered but still pretty clean.

I am probably going to change the wheels back to Grigio Mercury and re-fit the original Grille.

There are a few minor things to sort. The Air con is very weak, and the radio only works very quietly, I think the Auditorium amp may have packed up. Also an arb drop link to replace and maybe a chafed handbrake cable. Also being a later car the tax is now £695 a year!!

It looked great in the autotrader ad. If i'd have had gransport money this one and the one at Autofficina were the ones I'd have looked at.

Enjoy your new pride and joy!

Very well done and very lovely looking car!

Good shout on the wheels and grille. Perhaps some dealer labelled number plates as well?

The air-con hopefully just needs a recharge (sounds like it) but many have suffered with failing compressor and several threads on here regarding replacement.

Radio, the aerial amp from memory is in the A-pillar and quite often pack up. Your worst case scenario would be heater matrix leaking onto the top of the radio. Easy enough to check and again plenty of threads on here.

Handbrakes are notoriously troublesome and the shoes may have disintegrated. Again, you will find threads on here. Also of handbrake cable chafing check also flexible brake hoses around the rear axle area as, if not clipped up properly, they can rub which is obviously not good.

Above all. enjoy the car but sounds like you already are!

Thanks, some good tips :)

Handbrake wise it's had some new shoes this year and holds well, will get her up on my ramp and have a look to see on the routing of stuff.

Hope there is no heater matrix issue! It does sound like a failing amp to me :)

Thank you all for the encouragement!!!

Congrats. Enjoy and clock up some miles of smiles.

The auditorium amps are prone to failure and really not up to much anyway. Maserati in there wisdom / ease of production put a male connector on one side of the amp and female connector on the other side which means you can just unplug both sides and connect them together to bypass the amp.

Everything will still work using the head units own amp. Easy solution if the auditorium amp is at fault and easy to test your theory. Its in the boot behind the boot liner.

Well done on your purchase it looks in great condition and with all that service history sounds like a great buy. Saw the advert many time and thought it look lovely apart from that front grill which like you I would have to put back to standard. Have fun in her.

I never understand people who only buy cars in their own vicinity when perfect examples like this are only a day out away. What’s one day when you intend to keep the car for many years and you don’t have that nagging feeling that you should have gone the extra mile. The last car I bought involved a flight followed by a two hour train ride. Enjoy your new toy I’m sure your diligence will be rewarded.

Personal taste but I agree with you re the wheel colour, like the grille you have but also like the original, can't make my mind up about the chrome to black badges and not a fan of the oem rectangular pressed tail pipes - fitted Larinis to mine.
I took mine on a 150 mile blast solo yesterday (Hampshire and Sussex downs) and couldn't stop smiling - so 'chuckable' with very accurate steering and plenty fast enough for our roads, and the sound..... I do wish I could separate the suspension in Sport mode for really poor roads.
I hope you have as much fun with yours.

Wow, that looks lovely. You'd never know you'd driven back from Darlington. I bought a car in Glasgow and had it delivered 450m to my house. It arrived so dirty, I thought it was the wrong car.
