Folks I wasn't sure which lounge to post this on but please look out for this evil virus

http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/c...cam-uses-cheshire-police-logo-59067-33073161/

This is the fix if you get infected :)

http://forums.anvisoft.com/viewtopic-45-4489-0.html

Only for the fact I knew how to do a safe reboot and a system restore did I avoid having to pay an IT Bod ££££ to get my laptop clean.

Pass this round to as many contacts as you can because it is a genuine virus.

Stay Safe

Had a client with that, or the met police version. It is a bit of a pig, but I've also used Tkiller to remove it.

Make sure you have a boot disc for whatever operating system you are using , then removal is reasonably simple. There are also tutorials on youtube etc.

I had an Interpol version on one of my home desktops and a friend had the Chester Chronicle version on his laptop - Malwarebytes or Spybot clear it with a safemode to command prompt boot. It's always worth keeping a USB stick with these two bits of software on them for just these kind of irritating malwares. I run Spybot quite regularly just to get rid of all the crappy spyware, adware etc.. that seems to proliferate nowadays.

That's a fine looking beer, MAF. I'm enjoying a chilled glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc to ease my way into a long trip home. And very nice it is too!

Back on thread... I had that virus and it was a right bloody sod. Couldn't shift it. The IT guys at work dealt with it in the end. I'll be following the tips from this forum in future. And trying to ignore the possibility that Macs are less vulnerable than PCs.

*cough*os x*cough* ;)

C

This. A lot. Been using a mac for 13 years as my personal machine, spends all day every day on the internets and its never had any kind of infection, spyware, key logger, anything - with no special protection except what's built into the OS. I do an occasional scan with a mcafee product, but only from an external drive, never had it installed and running in the background.

My work pc, with windows 7 is tied down like Rolfs' kangaroo and still manages to catch whatever's floating around.

Best advice, be careful with what you click on / open especially attachments to websites. If its an email you wouldn't expect to get or that asks you to do something you don't expect to have to do, delete it.
