Hello to all

After owning Alfa Romeos for the last 15 years. I am now in the final stages of changing to Maserati. It has taken a bit of time to get there but I Have now found the right car and i'm well on my way to being the proud new owner of a 4200 facelift.

I've been lurking round the forums as a non member for about 12 months absorbing as much information as i could from the threads. In fact it was this forum that helped me locate the car that i'm in the process of buying.

Hopefully in the next week or so everything will be finalised and i can finally get behind the wheel and turn the dream into a reality.

Thanks for all the great info in the threads and thanks to the people that have helped me make this happen.

Welcome to the best Maserati forum bar none. You won't regret your decision and you'll never forget your first proper drive (or indeed any after that, as every one is an "occasion"). As the other guys have said, we need pictures. :) Where are you located and what Alfas have you had?

Thanks Trev.

I'm in the Northwest. I bought my first Alfa in 2000 a 156 Veloce 1.8ts. Bought from new and covered around 80k before I changed it. 2nd Alfa was a 156 2.4 JTD which i owned for around 3 years. I then fell in love with the 159 TI which i bought new in 2007 2.4 JTD version circumstances have changed now so I no longer need a diesel. While i may miss the 45 MPG from the TI when it goes I just don't do enough miles anymore. If money was no object i would keep the TI as well. As much as Alfa's and Italian cars have got a bad rep reliabilty wise over the years. I've can honestly say that so far I have not had any major issues. The TI has been fault free passed all its MOT's at the first time of asking. The TS has a couple of issues that were fixed under warranty no great shakes at all. the 156 JTD has an intermittent issue that the dealer couldnt find. As it happened I traced it myself in the end to small split in the turbo pipework. I was already in the process of changing to the TI at that stage so the dealer changed the split hose when they took it in.

Hopefully in the next week or so everything should drop into place on the 4200 and then I will post some pictures. The car is almost as good looking as the wife :) The wife isn't a facelift model though ! :saifi3:

I miss my old 159, having had it for 8 years or so when I sold it. It was one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Still patiently waiting for the forthcoming Giulia to add to the fleet.

I still enjoy the 159 TI its the 2.4 JTD version. Fettled by Alfatune once I have taken delivery of the 4200 I shall have to set about finding the TI a new home. There is something about the design and the lines of Italian cars the increase your BPM even when the cars not moving.

Yeah a good choice the 4200.
Enjoy the adventures of custodianship.
Just need to get AndyK back into one away from his German fetish.

Facelift and 159 a good combo. My facelift has been very reliable over six years; alas not so the 159 (and mot tomorrow).

The Ti has been fault free for me. The usual running costs of brakes tyres and services, bulbs and a battery. The only thing that it has needed in addition to was upper front suspension arms and even those were still an MOT pass. I just changed them when I could hear them starting to complain of old age. I also had a replacement window motor fitted free of charge under warranty Considering its 7.5 years old gadget wise its still up there with current cars. It's a shame my eldest lad would not be able to get insurance on it otherwise I would keep it for him.

Still I'm sure the second I turn the key on the 4200 the pain of parting company with the TI will start to diminish.

Welcome. Some of us have a significant Alfa past that we can't let go of, but the 4200 is a stinking bit of kit in a different league. Enjoy! :)

Correct, I hate spell corrector ;)

It is a notorious git. I once wrote an email to my son's teacher, Mr. Burridge. It helpfully addressed him as Mr. Burrito and signed off with Best retards. I haven't felt much need to communicate with the school since then, nor them with me.

That actually made me laugh out loud!
