How the **** you manage to keep your foot of the go button for all that way.
That's a long drive if you break the law.

If I left my car in neutral hooked up to a tow truck I reckon I can manage 30 mpg just leave it idling ;-)

Wraggy,
I drive through Grinny each day, but in a 3200GT, so no use to you.

I'd suggest popping over to Tonbridge to ADG Sevenoaks for a look/spin in one of their Granturismos.

I found the 4.2 very uninspiring. Very heavy and flat. But I come from a Supercar so my view might be a bit skewed. I went for the 4.7 MC Shift as I wanted it to be a lot more raw and the noise. Oh the noise. However I find the drive to be a bit disengaged the steering is a lot lighter than I am used to and the car is very big and heavy.

Me too, 4.2 was totally underwhelming with a weird dead spot at the steering centre.

Hi Antony.
Thanks, I'm keeping my eye on their website and have popped in a couple of times. Spoke to David, who was very helpful.
I guess you're using your 3200 as a daily? I was quite tempted to get the black 4200 they have in as my daily drive but I'm struggling to find the time to get over there again (especially now the kids broke up from school yesterday).

Thanks to everyone else for their comments too. I was hoping to get a winter bargain (being a tight fisted Yorkshireman) but as we have just put an offer in on a house, the gt purchase might have to wait. Could still get the 4200 though to keep me going so that's the plan for the moment.
Cheers,
Wraggy

I'm a Yorkshireman too! Don't consider myself tight-fisted though. Otherwise I'd be in a Fiesta diesel.

That black 4200 does look superb, but has been up for sale for a long while now.

My 3200 is a semi-daily, in that I alternate journeys with my 205gti, which is much more suited to the windy A264.

Hi all, I'm in a very similar position to the original poster (not the fuel consumption part of the thread!) and can't decide between a 4.2 and a 4.7. I've loved these cars ever since I first saw one and have finally seen the light and sold my XKR to buy one of these. The sound is the second biggest draw after the looks - is there a sound difference between the two? (Factory standard ones).

Also what do you recon an early 2010 4.7 in black with cream leather and 20k on the clock fetch a) privately and b) trade in value (a colleague at work would rather split the dealers markup with me!)

Thanks in advance, Kristian

You need to try and drive the 4.2 and 4.7. I found the the 4.2 to be rather lack lustre and therefore felt I needed the 4.7.

Then you need to decide Auto, MC shift etc ....

And yes there are difference in sound purely on when it opens the valves. There is also quite a bit of difference in the way they drive as well. Which to me is also a huge deciding factor.

Thanks shiftme, sounds like I will need to have a drive of them both, but the 4.7 sounds as though it's the way forward

Thanks wattie, pretty compelling, it has to be the 4.7. I had the XKR as I knew the XK would be boring in comparison and found myself longing for the XKR-S! In your experience what are the must gets in one? Bose check, FMSH check, ideally with the big service just done ... Those car covers mentioned look good too

Well I would say fmsh, Bose, the comfort pack ie front/ rear sensors and a warranty!
Get a clutch check done and tyre/brake wear. The iPhone connector in the glove box is a useful extra!
I personally would avoid 2 tone/texture seats, me no liked.
Cheers Wattie

What Wattie says. Though I have leather / Alcantara + Alcantara headlining and reckon it looks great. I like the contrast of look and feel.
