I have had a merc and a bmw running lpg. The merc was a nightmare running it as we could not adjust the idle speed so it stalled all the time. The bmw was ok. Friend had volvo and vauxhall when manufacturers installed it and it ate the valve seats I think it was. I have heard the same has happened to many a porsche cayenne that has been converted too.
Add annual servicing, not able to use on eurotunnel, insurance dislikes and potential set up problems would say it just is not worth the hassle.

Not on a maserati, worked very well on my old saab 9-5 aero when my wife was driving manchester to Birmingham everyday . If we'll set up the maserati probably drives very very close to running on petrol, but lpg puts a greater strain on cooling, is less tolerant of reduced spark, and the mapping might not suit the engine long term

I had a 4.5 v8 Porsche Cayenne with an lpg conversion. It didn’t lose any character or sound and certainly no performance loss. I had it done with a trusted specialist here in n.I. Yes there are space issues and it doesn’t go any further as fuel consumption is close to identical. The big advantage is that it’s around half the price so your money goes twice as far. I had to make a horrendous journey every night as my father was dying and was in a hospital 120 mls away. I was spending £60 on fuel so took the plunge And converted. As long as it’s done correctly and is certified there should be no problems. It all comes down to personal choice. Don’t let the nay sayers put you off, I’m not an expert by any means but the Porsche lived happily on lpg, mind you a Maserati engine is a whole different beast.….

Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice. I do have some experience of LPG vehicles, many moons ago I had a company BMW 518 that was gassed, generally speaking it was OK and we only had any trouble after 150k miles, performance was down slightly and I recall issues in winter with freezing(or maybe I dreamt that). We had a tank at work so feeling locally was not an issue and it still had the original tank. The point I am making badly is that my overall experience was not a bad one but the vehicle was a simple hack. Anyway I have been convince that it is not a good idea, shame as I liked the rest of the car. The search continues.

Nothing wrong with being a wild card mate , Ive been one all my life ............If the car is something you wish to cover a horrendous amount of miles in who can blame you for wanting to do it as cheaply as possible whilst enjoying that sound and comfort , Its a win win in my book providing there are no adverse effects , and that my friend boils down to the research you carry out beforehand maybe try and discuss it with a knowledgeable independent tech, after all one of the reasons this forum was set up originally was to help owners devise ways of running and enjoying their cars as cheaply as possible, the fact that these engines have proved themselves to be bullet proof means for some they can become every day cars
