This one for Andy really, and anyone else who likes their BMWs of course. I bought this a few weeks back - an absolutely mint 2001 BMW M5. I'd been looking for ages, and finally found the right one up for sale. Unfortunately it was in Belfast, so it required a flight over there and a 10 hour overnight ferry to Liverpool to go get it. However I wasn't disappointed, it was in as good condition as described. And after a few modifications (addition of the factory cupholders, replacing the aluminium trim with walnut, and an upgrade of the TV unit to from analogue to digital) I think it's now the perfect M5. It's also got a custom exhaust, which makes it about as loud as the GranSport in sport mode when you start it up - so just lairy enough but not too loud.

A couple of pictures...

Just a brilliant car.....but then you know this......Loved mine even when the clutch did go bang at Llandow..........Finding a good one is difficult these days but looks like you have a lovely example there Ben........Still one of the best M5's as far as a drivers car is concerned........Beautifully balanced for such a big car....Lovely purchase Ben..

That does look mint , well worth the search and journey , I read so many times, I want the car of my dreams but I can't find one within 50 miles , the right car is worth the trip, I also find speaking to the owner helps as you can tell a lot from the answers you get whether it's enthusiast owned

The second best cheap 4 door sports car currently available. For those that find a QP V slightly too beautiful and slightly too well balanced, with slightly too much style and leather, the M5 is a darn good choice. In fact, come to think of it, there's probably a forum for people that like them;)

Driven a few, nearly bought a 540 Sport Touring a few years back one of the many mistakes I have made with cars. E39s just look right so much better than all other 5 series

I have high hopes that a well looked after M5 will be worth a good bit more in a few years than I paid for it. Having said that I paid top dollar at £6k I think. In the meantime it may be (whisper it) my favourite car of all time. Then again I've not yet found time to bond with the GS - need to get that one out more this summer.

Not sure you paod top dollar there Ben......The miles and condition I think that was a decent price.....I sold mine few years back for 6k with the same miles on so they really have not dropped and the good ones have started to creep up.....Look at PH and cars with over 100k on are being advertised from 8 to 10k........Some dealers are asking over 20k for cars with really low miles....

Oops - really should read my posts before posting. I paid £16k! £6k would get only me a high mileage poor condition one - I tried that on a similar M5 a few years back and it was a dog of a car!

Lovely car. Been looking on and off for a nice one for a while. Had a early 1996 E39 540i Sport saloon and a later 2000 540i Sport Touring. Great cars. Miss the later car. Would have one again as unrepresented great value. Should have bought & kept an M5 when I came out of the Touring as nice ones could be had for just under £10k then.

Not quite in the same league but I just bought this. Two owners from new, full BMW history from the supplying dealer (24 stamps!!) and the first owner for 20 years was the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews !!

I always loved the shape of these and got it for a song.

A little fettling and it will be show quality.
