So after finding out my exhaust valves where rattling I set out on a mission to get them replaced. My 1st set was an eBay/Amazon set (only ones i could find), they were put on my car but poor quality and it was actually worse in the end than before. After a lot of research I stumbled across https://dotworx.uk/ through S6 Wraps who were able to replace my valves for high quality parts and replace my vacuum lines. I am happy to report my car sounds even better than when I 1st bought it. It was hard to find a company that would do this work so sharing with you you guys. Hopefully helps some of you out.

In for surgery :eek::

I do like a bit of ingenuity , like we say here in Africa we don't have problems ,only solutions

Yes perenially interested in valving my 4.2 QP. Do these valves basically bypass the back box entirely or are they actuating existing hocus pocus within the existing back box so that there is some acoustic magic still happening in there?

It seems that the 4.2 GT (not sure if it's the same for the 4.2 QP which I have) has an internal spring loaded mechanism in the box that is forced to open as the exhaust pressure rises, bypassing internal muffling. I was surprised when this was reported and wondered if this could be an age related failure point for either rattling or seizure - but don't recall anyone actually reporting this. Also whether or not the mechanism could be accessed via an external actuator to manually control whether it was open or closed.

My 4.2 muffler started rattling. We cut it open to find the the spring loaded port to bypass the internale muffler (you might have seen this on the maseratilife forum).

The rattling was in the muffling part. So no, this bypass was not the issue. I went ahead and bought a used pair of 4.7 mufflers and put those on and ran a vaccum line. The installation is on this forum somewhere. Hardest thing was to get the the cheap chinese controller to work properly.

I just noticed a set of valved boxes on ebay uk this week. Think it was around 600 pounds for the set, which is very very very good deal. I Paid 1000 and still have to replace a valve which is rattling.

Nice work by them. I'd be interested to know what the cost was as my valves are knackered!!

For GT, the valve simply opens up the larger bore pipe which just goes straight through the back box from memory so basically makes it a straight through. Closing the valve diverts exhaust through the small pipe and into the box and sound deadening.

I bought a gt set for my qp and they did not fit. Some have installed without modification so there may be some minor differences between gt mc and zf boxes.

For your qp you could open up and remove the sound deadening material which will increase sound at low speeds. To increase sound some more remove material and fix valve open. To max the noise from the boxes, gut the inside and join in/out to make them straight through. I did no.2

Is it an mot requirement to have them working?
I've never understood why you would want a valved system, just something to go wrong, and a lot of people I know, with them on other Marques, just wire them open. To me a decent sounding aftermarket unvalved exhaust would make far more sense.

I'd quite like to be able to control the noise ... I only start feeling inadequate around this lot!

That's what your right foot is for! ;) You will need to find gt boxes that fit, install the vacuum pipe, solenoid and method of switching. I think I purchased mc boxes and automatic may have fitted but not sure or its over 2k in aftermarket. Hence I went with partial strip out by Jarens.

In what way do GT boxes not fit? Is it the exit pipe length or the pipes before the box not longenough/wrong shape?
Could you just swap the boxes and weld?
