Hello All,

Just joined the forum on the recommendation of Martin Chatfield at Emblem Sportscars.

Im looking for a new, enjoyable drive to work machine(17 miles over the Quantocks each way) - weekend toy. I have a Jaguar XJS 5.3 v12 which is a restoration project and won't be ready for a very, very long time, plus the family bus.

Looking at a couple of options, 911 C4S, GS or Cont GT with the GS as the current leader (looking around the £27k mark). Have done some research which led me to Emblem who would be my local indie. I've looked and I'm not keen on the Granturismo as an option, my local garage has one and its a real dog, torn rear centre consul, burns in the A pillar etc and they're quite big of my local roads.

Has anyone had a mixture of the cars above? I have seen many posts where members own several sports cars and hoped there might be some knowledge I could pilfer.

Is there anyone local to Taunton who likes coffee and would mind showing off their Maser?

Finally, what are the must have options? I've seen mention of LE's, did the GS have different specs?

Welcom Elliott I'd be biased and say get the gs they are great fun. But I haven't had or driven a gt. There were lots of optional extras with the gs. The le was a package deal of some of the optional extras and they normally sell for a higher price. There is a post somewhere with a list of all the options. You will get lots of advice on here best forum around.

Welcome, Elliot

I've had a 4200 and now a GT
The GT is a big, heavy car, *but* when it's on song, it inspires confidence that you can push on rapidly.

*But* have had a 911 recently as a loaner, it's *nothing* like it. Nor was the 4200. So if either of the porkers are on your list because that's the driving experience you want, the GS is by far the closer. I didn't actually like the 911, but glad I tried :)

If you can stretch to £30k Matt has a very nice GS for sale.

Forum owner and his car is listed here with a £1500 saving to a forum member buy.

Thanks for the welcome, I've seen Matts pictures and it's stunning! I am very tempted to add a little to the budget, I've read he's a little OCD about maintenance. Would there be mush to sort on it? The 3k eats into my 'what if it breaks' fund.

I would say knowing Matt if wouldn't need as thing doing to it......Clutch, sorted, service sorted, all paint and wheels spot on and he is only the 2nd owner. If you can stretch I would as it will be a cracking car.

Other side of the country to you......but it will be worth the trip.....Matt is a perfectionist where his cars are concerned......

He is near to Goodwood...drop him a PM.

For what has already been done on the car you would not get much change from 4k, so your 3k war chest has already been made redundant for the foseable future.

Welcome along Elliott and as has been said above, the journey will be well worth it to see Matt's car. For your first foray into a Maserati, it's best to buy a known car and one that has been looked after so well - good luck in your search

Hi Elliott. As the above have already pointed out I am very OCD. I am a graphic designer so everything has to line up and be perfect. I am sure you have heard this before but this GS is perfection. It's all done and ready to go.

New discs, pads and tyres all round.
Perfect paint and wheels. Front end has just been done purely for stonechips.
Interior is mint
Also has tasteful upgrades such as a full stainless exhaust with independant valve switch which means you can run the car in SPORT with the valves open or closed so it can be both a church mouse or a banshee and you won't annoy the neighbours.
Upgraded Becker (OEM fitment) head unit with Bluetooth hands free and 6 stack CD
The clutch was done about 5k miles ago so no worries there.
It's the best colour combo too IMHO.

I have just spent all morning making new fixings for the rear undertray where on had snapped. Anyone else would have just cable tied it. I also painted all the subframes whilst I was under there as I have the benefit of my own ramp at home.

The car wants for nothing, so much so that I have already been offered £27k by a well known trader to take it. He woukd retail this car well into the 30's.
Every Maseserati I have had, I have had to travel the country to find the right one.

This is the right one!

Happy to point out there is now an indie in Marsh Barton,Exeter.Bags of Maserati experience, and both helpful and reasonable.

Yup. Regardless of it being a little above your £27k budget, you won't find a better one out there. He's a meticulous, almost obsessive chap.

Having said that, the 911 would be nice too however they are just not special in the same way. I've had several and the newer they get, the more refined (therefore boring) they become. If it's about owning and driving something that you will feel great in, every time you drive it, then the GS is the one.

I've also driven the ContiGT. Nice cars but that budget will mean an older one and the tech is old now. The GS has no tech to get old, the Becker head units were old fashioned even when they were new, sound great though.
