The quality of soldering for the micro switches isn't the best in the world. If the button has stopped clicking then it suggests the micro switch itself has failed.

Short term fix until you can get a new micro switch if your so inclined would be to de-solder both switches and put the boot switch back in place of the door opening switch. Leave the boot switch off and it should still work for opening the doors but you will have to use the manual boot release in the glove box.

My switch fell off for opening the doors inside the key. Picture below shows the hasty repair I did. Hasty as in I had no working key at all when it happened. Its not the best bit of soldering I have ever done but it works and is more secure than it was before.

I think Matt (Conaero) may have a link to the replacement micro switches. IIRC he said he had some in a previous thread.

that looks pretty effective. And if it works who cares !

is it a question of getting the switch off the circuit board and soldering on a new one ? that would definitely be beyond my level of dexterity !

Not sure where abouts in the country you are but if its your spare key I can swap the switches over for you either via a meet or by post. I'm in Cheshire. There may be a member nearer to you that is happy to help as well.

These are the micro switches but have a word with Matt (conaero) as I think he had some. The ones in the links above are white switches as against the red but they are the same style shape and function of the originals.

this is very helpful and much appreciated. fortunately I've got a family friend who's handy with a soldering iron but many thanks for the offer. I'll let you know how I get on !
