New GTS 4.7 MC shift Brake discs/pads?

Hello All!

I'm the proud new owner of one of these beauties (4.7 S MC shift 2009)! I've been watching these since 2007 and now finally got my hands on a 2009 model!

However.....

I'm soon going to need new sets of -front and rear- discs and pads for this car as the current ones have deep grooves and a sizable lip.., and I've been searching for some info about the specs and options for the replacements.

From what I can tell the disc is something like this:

Front Brake Discs set(2pcs) part number 235318 - 1200Euro
Front Brake Pads part number 980139070 - 750Euro

Are these "standard brembo discs" or do they have any kind of special maserati measurements/ drilled holes for fastening?

Are these the correct OEM Maserati parts and does someone have exact measurements/detailed specs brembo PN's?

I've seen that a lot of people have used Formula Dynamics in Vegas as a replacement, but this is still 1800USD+$600 for the pads for all 4wheels... the maserati option seems to be £2000 if done through a dealer for just the fronts....

Also out of curiosity, has anyone tried to fit the Ceramic discs from a stradale on a 4.7? if I could source them cheaply could it be worth it? will they fit? Can ceramic discs be added to the same calipers (with new pads I guess?) or is the system totally different?

Ideas and recommendations? \

GTA.

From my limited knowledge I think you've already discovered the only 2 options

This is what I found on euro spares for the MC

Maserati Part #272384

Fits: Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale

#272384: Front Brake Disc

NEW
To Order
Subject to Availability
£3,771.46 + VAT EACH plus pads at £842.92
I make that around £10,000 for discs and pads plus fitting

When you said cheap carbon ceramic discs what were you thinking £6500

The front discs are only available from Maserati, or aftermarket from FD and are criminally expensive. I believe the rears are shared with the 4.2 GranTurismo and 4.2 QP, but am not 100% certain. If I'm correct Eurospares were selling pattern rear discs recently at a very sensible(ish!) price, so that could reduce your bill. Are the fronts too badly worn to be skimmed?

Many thanks for the warm Welcome! pictures will follow as soon as It's delivered! (xmas time)

Wack 61, many thanks for your replies... what I am trying to figure out is if the Maserati version has any physical differences to the Brembo kits its based on... can I buy Brembo parts and expect them to fit?
About the carbon option I would not dream of considering it for thousands of pounds per corner... however, I might have a friend who's ex girlfriend has an uncle that knows a guy that works at the Carbon ceramic disc factory and might have a pair of souvenir ones.. It's a longshot, but might happen to be an option to get a pair or even 4 discs very very cheap, but.. Just need to know if I have any chance of fitting the disks and what exact dimensions, and if they are compatible with the original parts....

thanks MAF260, I don't know how bad they are worn, but what I did feel was a 3-4mm lip on the front discs and I know the car has done almost 40K miles so It's coming up sooner or a little later... but I'm bracing myself! :/ (yes, I know these beauties are very costly in terms of spares and service/maintenance, but no-matter how I look at the brake disc options it seems like a rip-off for what are pretty standard parts on other performance cars.. even Ferrari discs are cheaper!?)

Anyone with experience in the discs/replacements/upgrades here?

Welcome along. Yes, it's the fronts that are super expensive so it's well worth getting expert advice to see if they are skim'able.
Good luck & enjoy the car

Welcome, GTA. Fine choice of car and forum.

As above:

- Rears are compatible with the 4.2 and Eurospares has a pattern part
- Fronts you have the choice of FD or Maserati. Neither are cheap, but the FD ones are at least lighter and claim to be better. Frankly they don't have much competition - the standard brakes are crarp.

Pads you can get aftermarket but you'll probably lose the wear-warning sensor.

As MAF suggested, look into getting them skimmed. Mine were done at about 20k miles and I'm on about 40k now. They're showing signs of cracking round the holes and I'm half-tempted to buy some FD disks when I go to Vegas in the New Year. I don't need them yet but wouldn't mind having them in stock, so to speak. The main deciding factor will be how much the current kitchen makeover costs...

Enjoy the car, and post lots. Let us know how you get on.

Interested to hear how you get on with FD as it all looks interesting but it's not much cheaper than OEM once delivered the normal way. They don't have pad wear sensors FWIW but I doubt that would be a problem.

OP, enjoy the car. 40k must be getting top end for original pads/discs. Seems like a high mileage to then start skimming the discs at.

I suspect with Mr Crud's propensity for globetrotting, he has sufficient frequent flyer status to have an extra bag or 3 without penalty :)

Many thanks for the welcome and info! The options are terrible (FD/OEM only?) So, what I'm curious about is wether the Brembo Model that Maserati uses for the 4.7 is any different (physically) from their retail models...
This is the info I'm after for the fronts and rears:

Has anyone got these numbers?

Would they go through airport security in hold baggage?

Depends how big the packaging is, and how well I wedge them in amongst my socks and undercrackers. I generally follow a hand-baggage only philosophy so I'm not very familiar with the art of shoving stuff in the hold. The goal will be to avoid a huge import duties bill.

Would the excess baggage charge from a commercial airliner be as much as cargo shipping though?

Not if he wears them as earrings, only if he puts them in his suitcase, but the saving to be made, you could throw the cloths and still be up.

They don't all have to go in ONE suitcase!

Guessing from the 4200 disks MAF sorted, and the disks I put on my QP, that the GT fronts will each weigh around 10kg or so. Max weight on a case is 32kg, but many airlines will limit much lower per item, to avoid 'heavy' handling costs from the airport. No worries putting them in a case or two. They could even fit in carry-on; just move it around like it weighs nothing, don't let anyone see it's really heavy!

Once got caught out on that, with some really hefty kit in a carry on bag. I was carrying it like it weighed virtually nothing to avoid attention, but stupidly put it on the floor and a member of the gate crew tried to move it. They weren't happy :D
