I have just picked up a Grancabrio, it has red leather with white contrast stitching. weas wondering if anyone has recommnedations on cleaning the leather, I am concerned that cleaners may not be compatible withthe stitching or may discolour the stitching. I found a reference to a Poltrana Frau care kit on the Us maserati forums but cant find it on any UK sites.

Any suggestions from people with contrasting stitching would be appreciated.

I always use Autoglym leather cleaner followed by their care cream. I've never had a problem with it discolouring the stitching as the cream is white, like your stitching. There are guys on here who will contribute soon, so don't take my experience as gospel. Sounds like a stunning car.

big welcome

there are loads of different products, most leather is just painted and sealed therefore best thing is to try and stop the leather drying out - a warm damp cloth and wipe over once a month will keep it clean

ground in dirt - the stuff I use with a soft clean shoe brush is Zymol leather cleaner, I find Zymol cleaner one of the best and not bad price either, I'll also suggest 2-3 time a year use Zymol Treat which is a great product (need to heat leather 1st - I use hair dryer) or Swissvax milk, great and leaves a good protected film. I think someone on here worked for Zymol and may be able able to provide better intel on the products.

other good leather products is Zaino leather cleaner and Z-10 in a bottle or Gliptone cleaner

none of these will discolour (unless the seats have been repainted at some point and not sealed)

now onto the car - any pics...

Just for the sake of absolute safety, whatever you choose Steve, try it first on the leather and then buff with a white cloth. If any colour transfers to the cloth, stop! You'll have a h£ll of a job cleaning the stitching if the colour does transfer.

not yet, need to clean the car and strip off the layers of wax before appling this, with hose pipe ban its a bit of a pain, I can do other peoples cars but seems not my own :( the weathers also not helping

I am looking forward to the result this will give on paint protection against my layers of wax that I have now, I'm not sure that the depth of refleaction will be better but I can build this back up, the process will be 2 days and I'll do a small write up

Toothpaste and a toothbrush? You may laugh but I bet it works, especially the whitening kind ;-)

I found a steam genie cleaner thingmjig worked great to get the dirt out of the leather but to be honest I have not seen it bleed off onto the cloth before so you should be fine.

My prefered products are the blue cleanser from Woolies trim and Gliptone, love the smell off that stuff!

About to attack my interior, Mrs Moans having taken over responsibility for the early morning conveyance of minor Moanses hither and thither. Was with some trepidation as I mused over the problem of cleaning and feeding black leather without ruining white contrast stitching.... And then I found this thread.

So it's Autoglym leather cleaner (Dicky), Zymol, Swissvax milk, Zaino or Gliptone (Enzo). Or Colgate (Conaero).

To Halfords! Or Boots...

Gliptone to finish definately, to clean well Woolies trim blu cleanser all the way, if not try a universal domestic cleaner, all supermarkets sell it, its a bright yellow almost illuminous and dilute it about 5:1

Have you done your seats yet, how did it go with colour transfer to stitching et5c. I have just noticed on mine that after driving with top down a lot the rear seats have lots of dust on them,( could be brake dust in there ) so am now concerned with this getting into stitching when I clean them ( after vacuuming)

I did clean the seats, using autoglym leather cleaner and then some autoglym leather feed stuff. All looked good, white stitching still white, but after a couple of days in the insane heat the leather has all developed this sort of white, dusty looking patina, as if I used too much product or it's all coming out of the leather or something. If anyone's got any bright ideas I'm all ears, otherwise I suspect a jolly good, hard buffing with a microfibre cloth is in order...

soak a cloth in warm water, then ring it out and go over the seats, then with dry cloth wipe of any excess off. this will clean it up and also soften the leather a little.

i would highly recommend zymol treat, think a few on here also use this, gliptone is also very good and use this on misses car but the mas gets the zymol ;)

these are used to provide UV protect ion and stop the seats drying out
