Yes he is a member. He bought a members car for the project and then sold it on to another member afterwards.

Hi Roary! Thanks for the heads up!

Hi F456M! The M3 is has become a 'rude boy' toy and seems to have the wrong image attached to it. I'm approaching my 40's and fancied something a bit more classy. Ultimately the V8 Ferrari connection sold it for me :)

I want to add a bluetooth adapter to the car but cant seem to find the forum link for the DIY guide....
Also, what options do I have in terms of minor exhaust tweeks?

Welcome to the forum!
Regarding exhaust mods the worlds your oyster really, starting point is probably X or H pipe, available on here for a very reasonable price, just do a search and the subject is widely discussed, good luck.

It's a pair of GrantSport backboxes which have been sent to BennyD and modified to be louder. If you have a totally standard exhaust I would recommend starting with primary cat delete and sports cats secondary, then centre section and rear section/back boxes last. Obviously custom is cheaper than branded i.e. Larini, Quicksilver, etc. but beware of poor quality custom exhaust fabricators as the one I had made isn't very good quality so I intend to uprade to Larini and scrap the custom exhaust... however others might sell it on for some money so also beware of second hand custom exhaust do not buy one without close inspection first.

Upgrading to sports cats will get rid of the standard ceramic cats which are liable to fail as much as the heater matrix is at this point of the cars life (if they already have not failed and been replaced). There is also a really nice performance gain from the free flowing front section so it's well worth doing... I definitely noticed it lower down in the rev range and increased throttle response. The initial sound difference is minimal if the rest of the exhaust is standard... the sound will become more throaty. I have recordings on my youtube from every stage links below... Next step for me is GS valved back boxes I have them just need to fit them :D

Rick, I just bought the car of Jack (number27)

Cool, I'm glad the car is still on the forum, Bestie used to own it before Jack I met him a couple of times at Brands Hatch Festival Italia, it's a lovely GS.

Jack found, and I agree with him, that it is not that loud from in the car. I test drove a GS at Giallo which had the Larini back pipes (and presumably boxes) which was louder and a bit too boomy for me.

How you finding the car Jeremy?

I bought it on Thursday afternoon, drove it Friday, cleaned it, then went away for the weekend in my BMW (chicken I know but 400 miles of motorway driving). Initial thoughts are mixed, love the engine, hate the ride on local roads (feels worse than when I tested it). Will get more into it this week.

Hi Guys,

Picked up the car today. Here are my first impressions..

Lovely machine! Very quick and I dont find the ride harsh. Unfortunately I couldn't relish the drive properly due to the heavy rain and the heater not working.
I tried the havac reset by pressing the econ re circ button together. Nothing happens when I press these buttons, they dont even light up. Also I cant hear a fan, the footwell is dry and no apparent coolant smell in the cabin. When I turn all the heater knobs, nothing displays on the screen, its greyed out and doesnt change. The rear windscreen button does light up.

I can also hear a rattle coming from underneath when im in 1st gear, at low speed, like parking etc. It sounds like a diesel tractor.

Otherwise the car is sound. Some bits of trim could do with a refresh, expected for a car of this age. Im looking forward to this project. The car has real character and you hardly see them on the road.

Look forward to your feedback

Welcome to the fold (officially)... did you buy the car private, trade with warranty or "trade as seen"?

Where in the world do you live? I suggest calling your local independent maserati/ferrari specialist and getting some advice...

If you are in the South East I highly recommend AV Engineering, Voicey is very good at finding/solving problems

The rattle at low speeds could be various things quite common is the cats breaking up, what model year and milage is yours? Post 05 face lift the majority of cars have US spec cats which are more robust but the Euro spec cats are a liability.

Rattle from underneath could be a number of things, depending on how it happens occurs. As Benny says, it seems fairly normal.

If it changes as the clutch engages and disengages it could be the release bearing or the torque tube bearings. A few rattles from this area is pretty standard. A good way to tell is by letting the car idle for 30 seconds to a minute in neutral. The gearbox control keeps the clutch pulled in (disengaged) for around this time after neutral is selected. After this it engages the clutch to prevent wear to the release bearing. You should hear a subtle change in noise and if your rattle appears you have your answer.

If it is continuous and not affected by clutch operation it could be the cats. This is a serious issue but thankfully quite rare. I would get the car up in the air and check for damage to the cat casing and see if they rattle when you give them a thump with your palm.

The absolute best advice is not to worry and enjoy your car. Get it to one of the forum sponsors for an inspection at some point - depending on where you are there are a few good choices - then you will have a good baseline to work from with your refreshment program.

Thanks again guys. The heater started working, catman suggested a loose cable under the glovebox. Sure enough it was totally disconnected. I also felt around for dampness or water...it was all dry...the fan are not very strong..are they suppose to be like this? I also changed the fuse for the wing mirrors. They now power fold and I can change the position.

The rattle issue is a bit worrying. I have made a couple of videos. Please see the links below. One video shows the rattle at idle, the other when im in first or second gear.

Useful. It doesn't appear to change with engine revs, so that narrows a lot of stuff down (I *think*)

Coming from the middle of the car so my guess is
1) Exhaust mount / hanger. Get under and wobble the exhaust, see if it's banging on anything (NB Wait for it to cool down)
2) Some heat shield. Same as 1 really
3) Unlikely: Torque tube bearing

I'm sure everyone else will chip in
