Hi new member here.I have pretty much decided to treat myself to a bit of Italian glamour and buy a 4200 BUT whilst I have seen the odd one on the road (they are quite rare you know!) I haven't really had a chance to look over one in the flesh and I was wondering if there were any local meet ups coming up where I may be able to look at another members model and get some pointers on what to look for when my search begins

Thanks for the welcome.

All views/ feedback gratefully recieved!

Welcome Mark. This is a great forum for both info and fun. I can't help on the 4200 debate but there was talk about a few people meeting at Newby Hall near Boroughbridge on 10 May so you might see some there. It's part of this http://www.carsinthepark.org.uk

Cheers.

Thanks both.

Andy I have to say I prefer the lines of the pre facelift but as you say I suspect the post facelift will be the more sorted car decisions decisions

Welcome mark. The 42 is a nice bit of kit but as you said, if you don't see in the flesh it is difficult to decide.......word of warning though, once you see a good one you will be hooked! The 32, 42 and GS are seriously gorgeous Italian mistresses, getting on a bit now but imo they are not looking dated at all and again imo, they are improving with age.
Hope someone near you comes forward to give you a chance to experience one. Good luck in the search though, it is half the fun!

Yep, there are people that prefer the cleaner lines.....There were two changes ...the 2002 cars, then some upgrades in 2003/2004 non face lift cars then the facelift cars in late 2004 on I believe. If you want a non face lift then a 2003/2004 is a good bet I would say but to be honest now these cars are getting on it is all about condition and history of the cars rather than age and miles for me.

They are hardly old.
My Stag is old, 40, can't believe I bought it when it was younger than my 4200 is now!
The difference being only a few years later when it was 16 years old i had to completely bare shell it to cut out the rust. How things have changed, unthinkable doing that say to a 3200 that would be the same age as my Stag was back in 1990 when it got new wings, sills, door skins, front and rear valances, and half the floor replaced!!

As an oldie, I too am drawn to more classic lines
I love the sweeping curves and running boards on something like a Riley (RME?)
Anyway you get the picture, you just do not see design like that any more. In fact I may start to look for one.
Which brings me to modern design
I do not like the present/near future batch of SUVs Lagonda, Jaguar (Pace?), Bentley, Rolls, Macan and dare I say it the Maserati. I see the need for all manufacturers to keep up but really there is no style here, just trying to fill a niche.
So there we are I have opened a debate and will wait to see your considered thoughts - be gentle with me!

No chance of gentle from some quarters but I am with you.........hence the 32 not a GS ( willing to admit a more sorted car than the 32 :() or GT in the garage. Lol

Just posted a new thread re Newby. Only 2 Massers booked in at present of which 1 is my QP and the other is most likely a GT. Still some time to go though.

I have to say I prefer the older cars as well (a bit hypocritical I know as I am buying a newer model but I want a bit of supercar performance with some comfort and my "oily" days are long over) as newer models just seem to get more and more bloated just look at a 1980's 911 compared to todays models.

I see you have a Stag Mike - a beautiful car. My stepfather had one I used to drive occasionally 30 years ago but as I say my oily days are over.

side tracking a bit more I sometime think some marques also die at about the right time. I had a TR7 years ago and whilst I enjoyed every minute you could never say it was a looker when compared to a Stag or TR6 and I dread to think what sports car badged as Triumph would have come out if the name had continued

My Stag's a keeper that's for sure, the first car I ever bought 29 years ago.

Mike

That looks in stunning condition. My stepfather's was a very 1970's purple with a transplanted rover 3500 engine and I only drove it occasionally as most of the time it was up on ramps!

Thanks Mark.
4 months at a specialist having the bare shell repaneled and painted, then nearly another 5 years in the garage at home bolting it all back together, rebuilding and reconditioning everything along the way.
Been back on the road now for 20 years.
