Hello,
I just picked up a 2002 4200 yesterday. I scored a great deal on it because it needs a little TLC. Mechanically it's in great shape but cosmetically it needs a bit of work. I started by dealing with the interior trim and thought I would share what I did with you all. The black painted trim pieces were worn, paint had an uneven finish and just didn't look good. The rubber switches/knobs were typically sticky and nicked up with white showing here and there.
I started by disassembling everything and touched up the buttons with a black sharpie marker. Then I painted them with a matt clear coat to protect both the touch up paint and eliminate the sticky rubber. It also leaves a nice, even finish across all the buttons and knobs so they look like brand new. It's obviously not as soft as original but I actually prefer the feel of both the knobs and the buttons not to mention I don't stick to them anymore
The car came with a modified Alpine screen that was finished in a textured black paint already. I chose to texture the rest of the trim to match as I really like the look and it will wear very well in the long term. I sprayed the reverse lever trim piece in the same matt black I used for the buttons to give it some contrast.
Here's the result:
I have a number of additional ideas and modifications I'll be making to her (too much blue in the interior IMO so I'll be dying some of the interior leather) but this was a good start.
