Hello,

I just picked up a 2002 4200 yesterday. I scored a great deal on it because it needs a little TLC. Mechanically it's in great shape but cosmetically it needs a bit of work. I started by dealing with the interior trim and thought I would share what I did with you all. The black painted trim pieces were worn, paint had an uneven finish and just didn't look good. The rubber switches/knobs were typically sticky and nicked up with white showing here and there.

I started by disassembling everything and touched up the buttons with a black sharpie marker. Then I painted them with a matt clear coat to protect both the touch up paint and eliminate the sticky rubber. It also leaves a nice, even finish across all the buttons and knobs so they look like brand new. It's obviously not as soft as original but I actually prefer the feel of both the knobs and the buttons not to mention I don't stick to them anymore:)

The car came with a modified Alpine screen that was finished in a textured black paint already. I chose to texture the rest of the trim to match as I really like the look and it will wear very well in the long term. I sprayed the reverse lever trim piece in the same matt black I used for the buttons to give it some contrast.

Here's the result:

I have a number of additional ideas and modifications I'll be making to her (too much blue in the interior IMO so I'll be dying some of the interior leather) but this was a good start.

Welcome along, the 42 is a good choice. Nice work on the buttons. Will be interesting to see how it fairs over a year or so.

Welcome.

On of our US members restores the buttons and post them on here.

Note your revised screen.... how does this interface with the NIT unit (under the arm rest and displays the heating/phone/SatNav etc on standard cars) in particular the heating and ventilation system.

Thanks for the welcome. The stereo doesn't interface with the Maserati HVAC system, it's completely independent. I would have loved to see it integrated but I'm sure that's close to impossible to accomplish. The unit under the armrest has been removed and a custom fiberglass section was made to replace it. This bought the room needed to put the main unit that feeds the touchscreen monitor in the dash.

Just ran into my first real problem today, all of a sudden the drivers seat stopped working. The seat heat and the lumbar? (when you move the tilt lever up and down) are the only things working. No forward/backwards or tilt action at all. They were all working yesterday just fine but I did remove the center console so I'm not sure if the wiring for the seats goes anywhere near there that I could have damaged/pulled a connector loose. The connector under the seat appear to be fine and are very tight. I checked fuse #1 and it's good, I also swapped it with another know fuse to be sure. Anyone have any ideas regarding cause/solution?

Typically water gets into the switches from the gutterless roof and corrodes the switches. Try some contact cleaner, but I recall they are not too hard to swap
