New speed restrictions on M1

Morning all,
I was listening to a discussion on Radio Derby just now, the highways agency are planning a 60 mph limit on the M1 between J28 and 35A. The speed limit is to be 60 mph and the hard shoulder is to be used as a normal lane. New speed cameras are to be installed. The reason for the improvements is for better air quality and easing congestion, what a load of b*****s. It looks like the old Velcro plates will have to come out, although they have a tendency to fall off near speed camera sites.

Thin end of the wedge I'm afraid. It'll be brought in as an experiment, it will spread throughout the country on choke points and then, backed up by fictitious green reports of massive health benefits provided by road safety groups, will end up being brought in for the entire motorway network. It's all bollox. I'm so glad I'm a rebel without a clue and will continue to make appropriate progress.

Hello Robert,
I'd be very interested in a set of those, two sets in fact, one for the GS, the other for the DB9
Thanks Hexadex

Lets face it guys you don't need 400bhp high CO2 emission vehicles to roll down the motorway at 60mph,maybe our days are slowly coming to an end!

Thinking of putting the Swiss plates back on the old 3200 for a couple of years just in case, you're invisible in the EU with those things

Fill us in Dave.........I know I saw a programme where French drivers who'd accrued lots of points registered their vehicles to a company in Lithuania etc to avoid getting any more points etc

As Switzerland isn't in the EU, so parking, speeding offences etc are totally ignored....

Trouble is Frank you have Swiss residency to get the plates, same if you live in Monaco!

It's one of the reasons I was keen to buy a QP sooner rather than later. I foresee the day when these beasts will be too onerous to own. They will keep jacking up VED, they will keep introducing average speed cameras, they will keep lowered speed limits, increasing fuel taxes.

There will soon be a point where there will be no point running one of these cars. I did 1,200 miles over Chrissy, most of it in France, most of it on the Autoroutes. Apart from a few spirited (and VERY enjoyable) drives on small country D-roads, and the kudos of all the in-laws wanting a ride in such a nice car, I did most of the miles with cruise control set at a few klicks over 130 kph. There comes a point where you have to admit a Mondeo would have done the same journey in the same speed for an awful lot less.

Life is for living....Mondeo driving is for those who merely want to exist and have no interest in cars....most on here think otherwise!!!!

It's not about getting from A to B, it's about the experience of doing it, otherwise there would be one car model for all, no choice, just a thing to travel in..!! You don't have to drive a Supercar everywhere at 150 mph to enjoy it, you know you could if you wanted to though..!!

As someone who lives in London I've sort of realised that :)

But my point is the legislators will continue to squeeze the fun out of supercar ownership. Enjoy it while you can, things will get worse.

Quite probably. However, you can take it lying down and accept it or you can say bollox to that, I'm keeping my Maser for as long as I can, use it as hard as I can no matter how much it costs me and shuffle off this mortal coil knowing I stuck 2 fingers up to the green, tree hugging assoles that are slowly strangling the life out of us. I'm for the latter.
