That would mean that you either bought the car with the fault, or that ECU worked well for some time.
Was your car faulty when you bought it?

Was wondering this. Sounds more like the units are functionally identical, and the one fitted failed.

The car was sold to me with no ASR , and a CANBUS to Speedo / Tacho unit HMCAN001 to get the Speedometer working and keep it road legal.
That unit worked fine , but of course I wanted to find the cause of the problems with the original vehicle systems.

The incorrect Ferrari 360 ABS/ASR ECU was only functionally identical for ABS , but not ASR and Communication with the Bridge-Can.
The 360 does not have a Bridge-Can its ABS/ASR ECU would never have worked for the functions needed by the Maserati Bridge-Can.

Who fitted this incorrect part is unknown , but it did mask itself so something to look out for.

I confirmed this with Bosch by giving then the two ECU numbers , they said it must match the original number for the vehicle as the software within the ECU will be different for each different part number.

So a good ending and just happy to have the vehicle's electronics back to how they should be.

Wow, that was some hacking the previous owner did there ...
I wonder why, as the 4200 ABS ECU's are relatively cheap and widely available.

And, by the way, the ABS function might have been working, but these ECU's are calibrated for the specific vehicle dynamics where they go (weight, mass distribution, brakes installed, etc)
One of the things they are suppose to do, if I'm not wrong, is the correct distribution of brake force between rear and front axles.
A 360 is a completely different beast from a 4200 in regards to all of those parameters (Heck, it's even a rear engine car ...)
Did you notice any impairment in the braking function with the previous box?

Who knows why it was done ! Crazy .

Braking seemed okay but I think the ABS was in a passive mode , though showing no fault it did not seem to kick in.
