If Marci is 2000 then she is pre OBD. There will be a 3 pin connector under the dash. You need a OBD cable with FDTI capability and then a 3 pin to OBD convertor cable. Both can be had from Ebay, search on here for the Unidiag thread, all the info you need is in there.

For anyone else who has a later car with OBD then you can still use the OBD cable and the Unidiag software to scan for codes.

I'm lucky, Bella being 2001 is OBDII compliant. Cheap £10 device works a treat. Was invaluable when I had PP issues. Sure you'll get something sorted soon enough.

Greg,

Thread the other day mentioned Autel.
Amazon doing this one at half price but they have others cheaper. With my track record of formatting office hard drives in error I wouldn't go near one but I am the exception to most in here!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-Auto...UTF8&qid=1465548761&sr=8-2&keywords=obd+autel

would this work with a 3 pin connected onto it like below?

On a newer cars, is there any readers or software for BT ELM device that can read error codes of modules other than just engine? I had VCDS ebay cable for Audi before and that could read any module i.e. Brakes, convenience, doors etc.

I'm currently trialling a new software called EasyMas, made my EasyOBDii. It's specific to Maserati - in the sense of all the manafactuer codes are listed automatically so no search required, also it's easy to use and no jargon to deal with (bank 1/2 etc is LH and RH). It should be available for purchase soon with their scan tool via the website, I recommended it as it has helped me a lot with fault finding and diagnostics over the last few months.

Does it only do the ECU, though? None of the other systems?

Thanks Phil. You are a star.
Should have known better and I consider fate well and truly tempted by asking this Q. Came home tonight and it was an excellent black thundery sky so wanted to take the old girl out for some atmospheric shots.......2 miles down the road and CEL comes on and for the first time, limp mode. CEL staying on and she sounds like she is starting on between 2-4 cylinders, then fires to life and dies again.....:(

Try the battery reset Greg.

Tried that. CEL still on and still not starting right and cutting out. Changed the relays as well given the problem I had with them recently just in case it was that again, but still the same. Not a happy bunny and the real drawback to having a maser and living 200 plus miles and 4 hours from a specialist.....and tbh, could do without another big bill for the old girl only a couple of months after an expensive service with AC condenser and radiator having been done.

Throttle reset?

A 3200 owner who hasn't done a Throttle reset or does it as a matter of routine!?!?!? :D

Get in, turn ignition to MAR, don't touch pedals, wait 2 minutes , key off.
Turn to MAR, foot down all the way on accelerator wait 10 seconds, release pedals, key off.
Now start the car in the normal way

Lol. By In large, Marci has been so easy to live with. The most I've had to deal with over the last 3 years is the odd CEL coming on and going out a couple of secs later......
Will try what you suggest tomorrow night when I get home.....with fingers crossed.
