Interesting. Lovely cars imo. Poor thing.
Of course, it’s all down to their marvelous fuel….
Nothing whatsoever to do with BMW engineering & design.
BMW have forgotten how to do engines since. Rod end bearing ball ache, and more recently, crappy crank slip….
Mobil fix that too …?!
Totally agree I always ran BMW'S and high mileage ones at that the engines were amazing.
I wanted to do my apprenticeship with BMW as I was amazed by them back in the 70's when my Dad went from his XJ6 to a 2800 I said Dad it's only a 2.8 and you had 4.2 he then took me for a blast and I understood :)

Mobil 1 and the BMW 325i that did a Million Miles following service schedules and BMW were one of the first to put service indicators on to dashboards what the discovered was very interesting.
You get what you pay for.
Oil change every 7500 miles, so twice a year for their average mileage. Might be good oil, but it doesn't last very long!

It’s marketing…Not that that diminishes their oil at all.
What it’s really selling (to me) is the importance of regular maintenance however….?
When you look at longlife service intervals these days, you do wonder when the engineers were put out to pasture by the bean counters…
( and we’re back in the room..!., lol)

On average the oil in my GS has been changed every few hundred miles, and at times at less than 90!

only due to age rather than use at 12 month intervals.

Yes I should get out more and drive I know.

Absolutely... I run a hot V8 BMW - turbos inside the V of the engine, hence under-bonnet temperatures are off the scale. In addition, the engine is designed to run hot - about 105 to 110C optimal coolant temperature in order to meet and exceed EURO6 and 7 emission standards. And yet BMW's service interval is about 15k miles on 0W30 oil. Little wonder that if you follow BMW's service interval, the life span of the Garret turbos is about 80k miles, and often, the engines last about 85 to 100k necessitating a long block replacement. Mine was part of the statistics too. Oil get's changed every 6.5k miles by BMW since the new engine under warranty. My local dealer is much amused, that I actually want to keep the car and over service it...

Perhaps what you need is a nice, low mileage Urraco, Peter…?! :)

I have convinced myself I get better fuel economy with V-Power or Esso Premium and I hate Ethanol so the extra cost is justified in my opinion. Seems a small price to pay to be sure.
On oil, I only use trusted garages and trust them to make the right judgement call on which oil to use.
