Oil smell and bubbles

Hi,

I noticed a bit of a smell after driving a checked the oil, it was low so topped it up. Still a bit of a smell but nowhere near as bad.

Have checked a few times under the car and via the dip stick to make sure there isn't any kind of leak where the oil is burning off, can't see anything. Have however noticed a few bubbles on the dip stick when checking the oil.

Seen a few threads on this and it seems like it can be normal but anyone have any opinions ?

Thanks in advance all

Hi Gib, first off, bubbles in the oil is totally normal.

As for the smell, it would suggest you have a leak somewhere.

Known culprit is the metal flexihose that attaches to the bottom of the reservoir where you check the oil. The brass nut that holds it to the reservoir cracks and then leaks.

You will have to remove the front bumper belly guard and look up into the drivers wing.

Always keep an eye on the oil pressure, cold should be hard over on 5 bar all the time, when hot, at idle should be just lower of middle and hard over on 5 at 2,000rpm and above.

Hi Conaero,

Great many thanks for your response.

The oil pressure is doing exactly what you say so I'll keep an eye on it. It's going in for a service soon so I'll ask them to have a look and ship it in earlier if anything happens with the oil pressure in the mean time.

Regards
