Hi everyone, I am thinking of installing an oil temperature gauge just to keep oil temp. Under control.
Do anyone have ever installed it on the Maserati 4200 coupe?
Where did u place the sensor?
I was thinking of using the left circle air vent to place the circle gauge!

Any advice would be very much appreciated!!!!

What makes you think the oil temp and engine temp are so different? if you are worried about the oil exceeding its rated operating temperature, i would ask what you intend to do about it if its too high? slow down? i personally would not do it, Maserati clearly don't think its needed.

I think it would look a bit daft in the air vent hole. I would mount it to the drivers side of the instrument binnacle between the instrument binnacle and the windscreen pillar, its a spot where there is a natural space. Or see if you can get an electronic meter that's flat and mount it to the left of the steering column on the surface of the dash. mostly i wouldn't do it! Another thought might be to get a blue tooth sensor and app for an i-phone and mount the i-phone on the dash some where, this would allow you to do many things as well as monitor oil temperature, i have dash command on my i-phone and with a wifi ODBII plug in i can pull up all sorts of dials and engine management displays real time and log them, its quite a good tool. unfortunately to integrate a new oil temp sensor into dash command it would need to be on the CAN bus of the car and that's not an easy thing to do i don't think. good luck with it whatever you do.

Seconded. What's 'Too high' going to look like, and what do you do if it is 'Too high'

How would you even do that? Drilling on the engine block/sump to have the sensor in contact with the oil?

Don't bother

I would like to see oil temp, not because I am worried it will get too hot, but because oil temp usually takes longer to come up to the right level than water temperature. So I'd like to know it's hot before giving it the full beans.

In practice I just drive more gently for the first 15 mins so it is probably not necessary in reality.

Oil takes a reasonable time to get up to temp agreed, but is that not why we use multigrade? Having said that, I always warm up my cars before spirited driving.

Very true, but I think oil temp is a better indicator of the temperature of internal components. Bearing clearances are ideal when hot so it's worth the wait before really high revs, no matter how good the oil is I reckon

Thank u for your advice!! It is a very good idea to use the odbII
I did not think of it but it s probably the best choice.

Having had a dig, not sure if oil temp is generally reported. Of course if there's no sensor....
