On the look out

Been lurking about for a few months, had a read of pretty much all posts from years back on the GT. Always been a Maserati fan and to be honest most Italian cars get hold of me in a way only certain people can understand.

Nearly bought an early QPV many years ago but noise about some gearbox issues put me off. Looking back I didn’t have the contingency fund for it really so probably worked out best. Recently been in Alfa’s but want to get into a GT Sport. Already had a good chat with Dicky as advised on the forum. My ideal spec is quite specific but unlikely so willing to compromise.

Thanks to everyone for providing such a good insight to Maserati ownership.

All the best with the search (for me the most enjoyable part!). Might be worth sharing your desired spec, so whilst unlikely you just never know.

When I bought my first GT I wanted Grigio Alfieri, however a stunning Blu Sofisticato example came up and I loved it. A few years later and I’m actually now in an Alfieri…..

I did have a look when you first posted on here. Mine will be my DD so miles are a little higher than what I would like as my starting point. Apart from that it looks very nice and tempting with a great spec. I am sure the photos dont do it justice either! GLWS

Best of luck.

It took me over 2 years to find one that matched most of my wish-list... but worth the wait.
Cheers, you have some patience! That's what I am scared of, as my first, I certainly cant wait that long to get hold of one

Thanks, I have to agree the search is quite enjoyable if you get what you are happy with in the end.

I havent really seen many colours in person to know exactly how they are versus the photos, its usually very different and whilst I dont want a white one, I am trying to stop myself going to look at Dicky's Eldorado as I may just end up bringing it home. I really should get out and look at some potentials rather than discounting everything on sale right now.

As Cyclone suggested, my ideal spec for anyone thinking about selling their GT Sport;

Dark metallic, black currently my 1st choice. Nightmare to keep clean but amazing when it is and I do like to detail
Black interior with Alcantara inserts and coloured stitch - this seems to be pretty rare
Need heated seats to keep the other half happy, still havent figured out if they are standard or need the comfort pack?
MC Auto shift rather than MC shift although from what I understand there arent that many Sports about with MC shift anyway
MC design alloys but I already have it in my head I will be on Trident's with the amount that have them
Goes without saying on here but a full history, looked after, in good condition and not a high number of owners, 5, 6 etc
I have preference on stitch colour, trim type, caliper colour, headlining etc but I cant get too picky
Hoping to be around the £35k mark but can go a bit further, not to fussed on age as such, more the condition and mileage for me although I am happy to be schooled on that thought process

If you discount white and black, and do not want a black interior your search will be long, as was mine... however I also have a black on black Maserati too which I still own and love.

Ah... your post above dropped in before I saved... I don't think your list is challenging at all.

On the plus side. When you find a car that ticks most of the boxes then things like caliper colour and wheels or wheel colour can always be changed to what you actually want for reasonable money.

Give Nareman Virk at Nuvola London a call. Like Dicky, he's excellent, and may well know of something coming up.

Good luck with the search.

It’s well worth driving over to Dicky’s to view the Eldorado example. Whilst there you may be able to view the other two GT’s he has in stock to give you a real opinion of other colours, he has Grigio Lava & Nero Carbonio GT’s in stock and also a Grigio Granito QP that may be there. Either way you get some idea of some of the darker metallic options. Grigio Lava was only an option on later GT’s / Stradales.

Look forward to seeing your next “New Owner” thread featuring an Eldorado Granturismo haha!!

Some people feel that getting a high-mileage car as a DD is a good way to go. A low mileage (and relatively more expensive) 'garage princess' will lose a lot more value if you start putting 10,000 miles per year on it, than a well-used example, which is already discounted for miles.

I agree. Cars need to be driven regularly, otherwise what is the point.

It's a good shout to go and have a look at the colours at least. ha ha you never know on the Eldorado, the other half likes the GT in white more than the others which doesnt help and the noise is going to be hard to resist not driving it away!

Very true.

You could be very patient and wait for the right spec to come along, but even if it did then you are not guaranteed it is a “good” example and priced well.

As mentioned when I was first looking for a GT I wanted Alfieri, but when the Sofisticato Blu example came up it was hard to resist as it was stunning and in great condition. So I bought it and loved it.

The Eldorado example looks stunning, is low miles and has a great spec, so many boxes ticked. When you buy from Dickie most known issues will be done and the car prepared to a very high standard. This makes a massive difference.

Here’s a pic to make you want one even more :)
