Its quite usual and well known Adam in the european countries that one would normally make an offer of around 30% less than the asking price , wierd why they do this but its a fact , but even with a third of they are still a lot dearer than UK

So even for high end marques at main dealers its a "haggling/bazaar" type way of doing a deal????

CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But if you know the system and it works....why not!

Scandinavial countries are even worse Adam,
All cars are truly expensive as they attract luxury taxes...
to give you an idea, a basic Fiat 500 which goes for about 8 grand here, starts at 18k in Norway...
A 5 year old 25 - 30 grand QP here, would be over 100K, probably closer to 120K over there!!

Enzo.

Countries that put extra "luxury" taxes on the high end part of the market buyer , either don't have a car manufacturing base or their society disapproves of this way of spending your hard earned, its a form of economic inverse snobbery........"Want to spend your money being flash, showing off, being fatuous.........of course you can.......but we're gunna make you suffer for it!!!!!"....IMHO of course.....

I don't like that...it sucks......................

I almost moved to Norway and was working out how to continue running a UK plated car there. Everyone was driving round in 10+ year old rust buckets that were a nightmare from an emissions standpoint. It made no sense to me for a supposedly eco-aware society. Why not push people hard to buy small, economical cars, lose the old stuff and also make those who can afford it pay a premium to drive sports cars that like a drink? As it was my friend was driving a 15 year old Chevy Suburban with a 8 litre diesel engine! Made no sense to me at all...

I believe, and I stand to be corrected.......thats its more correct to look at a car from a holistic pollution/total damage to the environment perspective......

This means that any vehicle during its life causes most damage to the environment before it actually is used on the road.....between 50% and 80% of the total damage done is during manufacturing.......staggering figures .........and the damage done during the average life, of ten years, is only the smaller proportion of the total damage.

Ergo...those people who keep their cars roadworthy and as best tuned that they can be, after their tenth birthday are actually THE most eco-friendly car users on the planet!

Big up your mate in the 15 yr old 8 litre Chevy...sorta...;)

My 20 year old Golf and 30 year old 2CV must be very green then!...so how come I still have to pay road tax? which would be free if I bought some tiny Asian buzz box that emits less then 80 grams of CO2 per mile???

Didn't think you paid tax for classics Safrane and surely a 30 year old 2CV comes under that...Or is it that you ahve a reduced rate?

ok guys , go on registration tax malta, type any maserati and you will see the result , we pay 120% on the value to register the car and minimum 1474 euro license , insurance its cheap ok but....
i will give you an example, 4200 gt 2004 value 20000 euro , registration 24000, license 1750, we are the worst in europe ,worst than denmark and sweden.
And we have to take our cars to Italy for service to increase our running costs.
Maserati should bulid a statue for the pour maltese fans.
