Wait til they are 3 years old with 20K on clock....no brainer

P

This * 1 Million, I bought my Jag 3 years old, 40K on the clock, some desirable options that made it originally a £40K car from a franchised dealer for 16K

I can't understand how people justify the short term losses on new cars, I'd have no problem spending 40K on a car, but knowing it would be worth nearly a 3rd of the purchase price 3 years later really puts me off.

Lease, perhaps.

Plus some people want an exact spec and the thrill of brand new, as well as the perception of no issues.....

Perception of no issues pmsl. Not with a brand new car...never had one that didnt have at least one fault. New disco, first time either of us had driven it, threw a code and went into limp home mode the day after it was delivered! Cleared itself up after a reboot but was very close to a call out of landrover assist. Reminds me, must read the codes today.

People buy new for a variety of reasons. Getting exact spec, full warranty and no hassle purchase (apart from a bit of haggling) I think are our main ones. Only problem I have is personally theres not many new cars (that I can afford anyway!) that I like enough at the moment :( F type or Ghibli might make the list....or if they properly spec a GT86.

GT86 .... Drove my friends around Llandow last time....Brilliant little car, lots of fun and very easy to get the back end out and control...Just needed a bit more power...

There's no putting a price on the enjoyment I get out of mine. Like most on here, I do it because I love doing it and long may it continue.

I appreciate the refinement and engineering of nearly new quality/luxury cars. But everyday I enjoy driving a car that was well engineered and now worth less than £2k, and originally cost me a 1/10th of that Porsche, and has cost nothing to run for the last 6years, also always giving me more enjoyment for relatively short spirited daily commuting drives than newer cars I drive.

Every car has a purpose or statement to make, but ultimately a car is about the enjoyment and memories it provides, whether it be driving, tinkering, or visual appreciation. How much enjoyment you get out of any car is down to available time, the occasion, and what you justify as good value.

GT86 killer of a car. I was a passenger around Silverstone in one with a saloon Pro, he overtook cars 3 times the power mostly sideways. He rated it for what it was.
