Hi guys, been a bit of a plonker and have topped the engine oil up a bit too much. Just been out for a run after topping up and checked the level (engine running and at normal operating temperature) and am about half an inch over the max mark. Should I do anything about it or leave be? Any advice welcome.

Tescos>Turkey baster>£1.49>Job done.

Half inch might not be a problem, but its better to be safe than sorry.

(and yes, I know it sound rude before anyone else points it out!)

Im really surpised it matters on a dry sump engine , any extra puffs of smoke on start up and booting it , you hear of oils seals being blown on the 3200 buts thats a wet sump, surely the pump only feeds whats in the tank at a constant rate providing levels are normal or above , think it would be far more critical on a wet sump engine ie the 3200 Help Nigelo to the rescue please

regards loz

On the alfa, when overfilled once, my local Budget were able to lower the level by sucking the oil out the dip stick tube. I vaguely recall they advised that some cars have no sump drain plug (the Smart) and this is how old oil is extracted via their special kit.

Better safe than sorry and get it lowered, doubt it will cost you more than a tenner.

Cheers

Thanks guys, to be sure I have removed some oil with some clear flexible pipe straight down the dipstick, sucked by mouth to bring the oil up then pulled out with syringe. Got a loverly taste of oil at the moment although washing this away with a cold Guinness :)

Loz it was always a concern with 993's if the oil was over filled.

I did that on my Gransport when I first got it but nothing untoward happened........better than too little oil
