So, cycling experts, a question for you.

I've used slime in car, and motorbike tyres with great success. Is it used in road racing? If not why not?

Cheers

If your talking of the fluid that seals punctures yes I run it in my 29'er mountain bike and so do most of the others I know. On a road racer, then yes, weight is everything so I wouldn't bother.

Ahh, that makes sense. I was just watching the re-run of the Commonwealth games road race, hence my piqued interest.

Cheers

Yep - have it in my mountain bikes too, but not on road bikes. The non-race road bikes have a kevlar band in the tyres anyway, and I couldn't tell you how many years it has been since the last puncture.

It would also be difficult to get in the inner tube of a racing bike as the valve is different/smaller

You can buy the tubes with Presta valves with the slime already inside, but they are heavy. The weight is effectively multiplied as it's all around the rim and takes more rotational force to accelerate than if it was just weight on the frame.
