Good point Roger regarding silicones, a point I have been preaching about for years but more from a full thickness detachment from the metal and impossibility to properly repair view....

Balls. That doesn't sound good. Any ones to avoid, Newton? I've tended to use Autoglym which I don't *think* contains silicon.

Mostly the instant gratification Yank ones Adam, the wet look type, I'm struggling for names at the moment as I've a head full of other business!

The problem with silicone is that sod all breaks it down, think of the problems faced by women who had silicone 8oo8 implants and the likes, another example is sizing used on towels and other fabric, a mixture of formaldehyde, borax, tallow and silicone; it is why new towels are all plumped up, wash them and they are half the size! The silicone never washes out and is part of the reason you end up with swirl marks on your paint... Buy un-sized car wash towels if you want to avoid it.
