Had one of these from 16 to divorce #2...supposedly longest hood on a production car, ever...396 cu bored to .30 over, 402...positraction rear end would break when you put your foot in it...could watch the fuel gauge drop when the pedal was flattened...but gas was less than $1.00 per gallon, and I was young(er) and dumb(er), so...

Is the Mach 1 the one that was woefully under powered? Something like 160bhp? Or am I getting it confused with another big engined Yank tank with woeful power (as there are many!).

I think the one in my pic is at least 240bhp, but it in those days it was more about the drama of 'muscle car' looks and wheelspin than outright performance, and in crude terms muscle = torque. I'm sure that Oneball can enlighten us.

True story...post Smokey and the Bandit, my father came home with one of those, t-tops and all. My mother met him in the driveway and announced that she was pregnant (I was about 7 and to that point, an only child) and told him to take the car back wherever it came from. He backed the car out and disappeared for about two weeks...

I am almost certain. The apple didn't fall too far from that tree...apples are relatively light, and don't roll too well...especially the rotten ones!
