Great to have owned one Andy and your playlist has some real stars on it! I had one of the first E46 M3s in the UK in 2001 and loved that too. It would make my top 10 cars I have owned. I remember when a good friend, and fellow 964 driver at the time, test drove a CSL and said it was truly a weekend car as it was much edgier, much noisier and less practical. I may be mistaken but I think it was considered by many journos to be a bit like the 964RS, a bit too impractical, which hampered values of both in the early days. How that has changed!

I used mine as a daily drive and found it fine but then I bought it after a string of Lotus Elise and Exige so was use to that sort of stripped out car. The noise it made was like no other car and it handled like a dream. Remember driving it around Goodwood track and thinking how the **** does this car go so fast around the corners without ending up in the tyre wall. Sold it for 26k so even more gutted. Remember at the time it didn’t have fantastic reviews but more for the price as it was rather a lot more than the standard car and the reviews said it wasn’t worth the extra but then all of a sudden you could get them for 25k used and it become a hero car and the press feel in love with it. Now you need 80k to 120k to get one.

Last pictures I promise.

Probably the Best car I've ever experienced on Track was the 964RS just something else.
A friend had one paid £25,000 for it as a retirement present for himself we did the full F1 circuit at Silverstone and boy did it embarrass the exotica a day I will never forget.

I had a ride in this gorgeous 105 Series Coupe which started life as a 1600 but is now a 1750, it was fabulous...

I'd forgotten how big QPVs are and how much I still want one...

I was there too, sorry I missed you. The GTV on the Alfa stand had a 3.2 Brusso fitted, apparently the last new one available, or so I was told.

You obviously had sharper eyes than me - I see you made a visit to the Sporting Bears stand - sorry to have missed you

Best colour too. NVH is always relative. `everything seems like a Bentley after driving a Caterham so no doubt the CSL was fine after your Lotus. Greatr memories though Andy!

Interesting BMW fan mail..
Nice looking cars, no doubt but just Macpherson strut front ends & trailing arm rears… (In truth, not too dissimilar to the Porker 964 era cars either). No right to be the last word in chassis design…! Wonder what makes them such stand out drives..
