From Hull.
Epic journey to collect by rail, for me anyway.
10:22 from Huddersfield direct to Hull, £14 but decided as a special trip to plash out going first class. £26.
Train was delayed by 30 minutes, good start, unfortunately at the first stop in Leeds they decided to terminate. All off. Had to wait another 30 minutes for the next train. Then had to suffer on the tanoy repeating that they are striking tomorrow, but that won't affect me with my new ride.
Consequently the next train was rammed, even going to Hull, but, holding my valuable first class ticket still had a cosy seat in first class, while those that decided not to spend the extra £12 had to mostly stand, at the other end of the train, poor soles.
Departed on arrival and decided to walk the one mile to where my pininfarina beauty was awaiting for me.
It's been a while since I have walked through the middle of Hull City centre, not as bad as many make out.
I arrive at the selling garage, and all are eating fish and chips for lunch in the back office, and I'm told my new pride and joy is at the other parking lot, and they kindly offer me a ride, being on foot.
And there she is, waiting for me, gleaming in the afternoon sun.
I hand over a wad of used notes, and she is mine!
Not wanting to get tugged on the journey back to Yorkshire, I immediately pull into Lidl across the road, and tax her on my laptop, the insurance I sorted out yesterday.
She drove lovely on the way home, at a nice brisk pace, with no issues but one, the built in satellite navigation wasn't working. Fortunately I know my way back home, so not a major problem.
However in compensation the electric sunroof slided back and forth smoothly, and the a/c was nice and cool. Was a tough decision which one to settle on, so did a bit of both, which broke up the boredom of the M62 a little.
The automatic gear changes were also lovely and smooth with a handy lockable overdrive top gear, which is a nice touch.
On arrival at home the kids were exstatic with the new stead joining the stable, with a nod from the Mrs that she approved and I had chosen well.
So tomorrow I will give her a good wash and complete the bonding.
A day to remember for sure.

It's not the "complete dump" some would make out

Mate from school studied Criminology there - which at the time we thought …. errr …. why.
Years later got stopped by the fuzz (for some random misdemeanour) but turned out the fuzzee in question sat next to said mate in lectures.
Stroke of luck and thank you Hull. Went and bought the Housemartins' long player (London 0 Hull 4) as a keepsake.

Anyway, all that being by the by, sounds like you had a grand day.

I've only been to the centre of Hull once, wasn't a pleasant experience, but it was around 10 years ago. Visit quite often as my daughter is at Uni there reading Physics. Don't know where she gets the brains from.

Not sure its one of Pininfarina's more recognisable designs, perhaps something they did for the money? ;)

Oh I think the two tone colour combination on my particular example shows off the pininfarina designers artistic flair very well, and coach built at their own manufacturing facility in Bairo Canavese.

Yep, a nice three door Mitsubishi Pinin For 1700 quid, my FD wheels on my Maser would cost more
Actually found a low mileage (38k) example that has escaped the rust bug, a rare occurance on such a vehicle being over 18 years old.
Drives and rides surprisingly well, the direct injection petrol engine pulls nicely through the 4 speed auto box, and has the rare (on the 3 door) super select 4 wheel drive system. With choice of rear wheel drive, full time 4 wheel drive, centre diff lock and, to make it a proper little off roader, a low ratio transfer box.
Top spec model so also electric windows/mirrors/sunroof, and a/c, remote central locking with alarm. Which all work!
It even has sat nav with a proper screen, but it doesn't work will require investigating, but we are talking 2000 vintage so probably as bad as the one in the Maser.
To top it off, has a new set of all terrain tyres, and the number plate is V8 RBP, which a mate of mine quickly says stands for right big plonker, at least easy to remember now!
So not a bad winter shed:)

Anyone who has the misfortune to get the train to Manchester on a regular basis (such as me) will recognise the chaos that the Transpennine line is these days. I also had to go to Hull recently and was pleasantly surprised by how much it's changed - it was the City of Culture last year after all.

Congrats on the purchase - you might need all the 4x4 gubbins this weekend!

Yes now prepared for a bit of snow, or the Zombie apocalypse!
It's got to be better than 340 bhp through the rear wheels of the M140i with Michelin pilot super sport tyres!

well trodden path for me too, grew up in Cottingham so mis-spent much of my youth in 'Ull.
** correction though, when collecting the car you said "heading back to Yorkshire" when in fact you never left.

Hull is Humberside, so technically not Yorkshire. My sister lived in Cottingham while at Hull Uni.

I did my RAF resettlement courses in Hull in 2000. A chat up line I once successfully used was 'Hello. I have a job, do you want a drink?'... I'm sure the city is nice...

For a while we threw it out into its own county, but that was abolished when it was found to be nuts, so its been part of the East Riding of Yorkshire since 1996.
