Production numbers Assetto Corsa

I received some very nice info from the extremely friendly and helpful people from Maserati Classiche Dept. I was wondering why there are quite a few AC's around in a colour that deviates from the three standard colours, and that's why I asked for this info. Furthermore, I was interested in the total production number and the numbers of automatic versus manual gearboxes.

Below is the e-mail I received from Maserati Classiche Dept.:

Dear Danny, after a long research finally I'm able to answer you.
The total number of Maserati 3200 GT Assetto Corsa produced is 259 (163 with manual gearbox, 96 with automatic gearbox)
*
Vehicles sold per markets:
Europe: 206 (of which 75 in the UK)
Rest of World: 53
*
Regarding the colours, three were the “standard†for AC:
Grigio Touring: 73 cars produced
Nero Carbonio: 63 cars produced
Rosso Mondiale: 60 cars produced
*
On request the Customer at that time could ask for a different colour. We have produced AC also with the following colours:
Blue luci di mezzanotte: 1
Rosso Indianapolis: 2
Azzurro Argentina: 2
Bianco Birdcage: 6
Blue Maserati: 2
Blue Nettuno: 13
Blue Sebring: 2
Giallo Granturismo: 6
Grigio Alfieri: 15
Nero: 11
Verde Mexico: 1
Paint out of catalogue: 2

Interesting cross section of the customer requested colours, that probably reflects most colour choices now (with the exception of white). i.e mainly blues (azzurri)

Would have prefered blck on the inside...Its a bit much for me....I can see why people would question it though....If it had black inside with the red piping punters may take it as a AC but as it is completely different I bet there are a few non believers............Maserati should have put badged on the back or something to mark it out from the standard car.....Although there is a badge 0n the dash.............Did they have a plaque saying what number it is..?

The plaque was only present in cars for markets in which the car was launched as a limited edition. As far as I know, this was only true for the UK, Italy and Japan, since I have never seen a plaque for another country (although Eurospares lists plaques for Greece and Australia as well). This would mean that approx. half of the cars don't have a plaque fitted on the glovebox lid. Anyone ever seen another plaque than the 3 mentioned?

I have raised this question at Maserati Classiche Dept as well, but they weren't able to come up with a clarification.

The only way of telling whether an AC is the real deal, is to ask a Maserati dealer. They can check this instantly in their system, based on the VIN of the car.

That's something I didn't know as I thought it was a limit edition across the world...Learn something new every day..

Conceited lot aren't we always longing to have something slightly better than the next guy, clever marketing really all intended to improve sales and tail off the last of the 3200's, but most manufacturers do it , what did it cost them next to nothing , a few badges and some parts bin raiding from the 4200 about to be launched

At least we know that any AC anywhere in the world is one of only 259 ever made, take out the ones that have been lost forever and the rarirty starts to make some sense. They should be worth at least £25K anytime now and increase in price from then on!!!! I am waiting for the responses to that statement??
