Hi, 2007 QP, just went to open her up to go for a blast, everything dead. - battery if course.

original battery by the looks of it, so no surprise. Got inside using the key, put it in the ignition, just a couple of clicks, nothing else, but now I can't get the key out if the ignition.

I know that batteries are ledgendary on here, so any advice on how to get the key out, and best value unit/ method to get the replacement done. I. Could call AA homestart but I'd like suggestions on good replacements that won't cost the same as a weekend in Paris as I'll still have to pay for the battery if their guy fits it.

Cheers guys.

Turn wheel to free, remove key.

OK, key now out of the lock - there's a small hole behind the ignition, inserted a small screwdriver into this and depressed a button, hey- presto the key was released. - dontcha love the Internet.

Nah, it's held in by a solenoid I believe, or rather it probably needs a solenoid powering to release it.
[edit] or it appears the solenoid can be manually pressed to get the key out!!! :D

Pop the bonnet and get a charger or jump leads onto a positive terminal and an earth. You could also inject 12V under the dashboard to get the circuits juiced up. You only need a small amount of power in the system to allow you to use the boot release button and gain access to the battery.

Or even simpler: there is a hidden keyhole in the overhang above the number plate. Put the key in and turn it but also press down on the boot lid at the same time.

Same trick on Alfa 166s.

Any thoughts on the battery? - it's looking like a Bosch S4 - 019 as the replacement from Eurospares, Unless anyone has a better suggestion from experience? Cheers.

That's fine if the key isn't stuck in the ignition lock, which it was at the time...

Yes, the Bosch is excellent. Lots of places sell them online too so shop around & look for a good deal. Some of the Amazon sellers offer prices as good as can be found on Ebay
